General
The Venues database is intended to give a large amount of information, easily searched, to you, the user. The type of data collected, or to be added, should relate mostly to physical places such as restaurants, clubs, bars, hotels and mongering locations. Venues may also include websites and other non-physical locations.
Venues are mostly attached to a Forum, or a sub-Forum, in the database. For the most part, these Forums denote Countries, States/Provinces and Cities.
NOTE: You need to filter the database according to the Location (the first criteria button - see "Global Filtering" below) in which you are interested.
We count on you, the Users, to help us maintain the Venues database. We do not have the manpower or budget to locate every pertinent Venue in the world, to know when it has closed, or to add additional information that may help other users in the future. You may suggest new Venues, or changes to existing Venues. We encourage your participation and doing so will earn you recognition via the Venues Badge, along with increasing levels, for those who help us in this endeavor.
Global Filtering
There are three basic filtering categories (Criteria buttons) that you may use to filter the entire database:
The Criteria buttons are at the top of the page, under the "Filter Options" label. Click on the button to open a pop-up window in order to enter your filter criteria.
The first Criteria button is to set your Location. On most of our forums, the Locations will mostly correspond to geographical locations, usually in the order of Country, State/Province and City. Locations may go as deep as areas of a city.
The second criteria button is the General button. This allows to filter by Venue name, other names for a Venue, phone number, Avoid and Preferred status.
The third criteria button is the Category button. You can filter the list of venues by major Categories such as Transportation, Accomodation, etc. You can click on the major Category label to display a pop-up box with sub-Category and Service options.
Filter the database by setting criteria in either or all of the three Criteria button pop-ups. Clicking "Apply" on any of the dialogs will cause the page to reload with the filtered Venues list.
NOTE that you do not have to click "Apply" on each pop-up if you wish to apply filters within more than one Criteria category. for example, if you wish to select a Location, and then also filter by the name of a Venue, proceed as follows:
Clear all filters by clicking on the "Clear Filters" button. this will clear everything, including Location information.
Category Filtering (Quick Filters)
In addition to filtering the database globally, you can perform specific filters on each category that results from your global filter.
In the Venue results, the Venues are grouped by major Categories. The name of the Category is bolded, within a bar with a light blue background. Next to the Category, in parenthesis, is the number of Venues displayed under the Category.
Next to the Category name and Venue count is a label with the text "Show Preferred", which also has a count of Venues, within that Category, which have been marked as Preferred Venues. By clicking on this label, you will filter the major Category's Venue list to show only Preferred Venues.
Next to the "Show Preferred" label is a list of sub-Categories, with a count in parenthesis of how many Venues in the major Category fall under these sub-Categories. Click on a sub-Category to filter the major Category list by sub-Category.
By selecting any of these "Quick Filters", you will also expand the major Category list and it will remain open until you clear the "Quick Filter" you have set.
