Hey Joe,
I don't know what kind of girls you are into, but clubs like Madaho, Black etc are for rich gringos who are into typical barbie girls. If like me, you are into more natural looking and behaving ladies I would try several other clubs until you find your type, or look through the hundreds upon hundreds of chicks on the net.
I know what it is like to be stuck somewhere you really don't like, but I am sure you have misjudged Argentina badly. Where else can you find some gorgeous girl next door type, and fuck her however you like for 100 pesos, and she will have a great attitude and thank you for it afterwards. And lastly, I can't let you get away with this one, no way. I think it is totally great that they play older music, maybe because their DJs are free to play whatever they want, and are not forced to play the latest production line of commercial crap like in the UK, Europe or USA! There are some good bands around today, but most people agree that the music scene of 2005 is total shite (unless you are a 12 year old girl) compared to the 1980s, 1970s or 1960s, when fabulous songs only made it to no 10 because the competion was so fierce. Even my 10 year old nieces and nephews liten to Madonna reworking Abba and endless remixes of 80s tracks, why, because modern music is totally dead and lacking any new ideas! Duran Duran, for all their unfortunate new romantic image, had more talent in their combined buttholes than say Franz Ferdinand or Coldpay, who by the way are not bad! So long live hearing a good mix of music.
I have been to BA 4 times over the past 3 years, and will be heading back in February or March next year. I have travelled around much of the world, and it is my favourite city and Argentina my favourite country by far.

Rio I think is slightly overrated now. You have too many tourist in the area and people like Mike in Brazil making Internet Porn there which will do nothing but bring down more desperate sex-starved tourist to the area. Why are you so rude? The last couple posts I've read here in various topic areas with you replying to various people I've agreed with you 100% in sentiment, but the way in which you post that view is frankly quite rude.
For example your replies to cousinit getting a bit defensive, and here - I agree new board visitors ought to re-read various existing areas, and for sure adding more clutter to a trip report thread isn't the best section. Yet deserved as an admonition is, the way you do it just makes a fairly bad impression.
As a new visitor here as well, while I totally agree with the basic sentiment of why you replied - all the rudeness does is lower your stature and credibility as a reasonable person for the future. Newbs, including me, make mistakes. To be kicked like a puppy for it isn't the best way to demonstrate that you know better.

StarfeI respect your opinion, but I would like to understand why? I suppose they are written in Moondog style, but there was more serendipity in his experiences. GK clearly has a fantastic, indulgent time in SP, and his budget is enviable. My favorite thing about his reports is that even at $1,500R / US$700 per day, crazy things happen. No-shows, misrepresentation of services and time, misinterpretation of time expectations, and even dysentery despite the fact that I don't think he's ever eaten in a luncheonette!
I'm not ripping on him at all, and I did enjoy the posts in some vicarious way. I certainly don't begrudge the fact that he spends more than I do on girls, but I think the reports are distinctive only because they are written in diary format and he spends so much money. Please do not tout GK's posts on other boards as "wonders to behold". His posts are terrific in the sense that those are written well and very detailed in nature. And of course, these add content to the forum. If anything, his posts clearly point out, what not to do, even when you have unlimited budget.
GK and Nickster53, mongered together, however, what a contrast in both of their approaches. When the girl from WE, met Nickster53 on the side, he dealt with her correctly and was able to reduce her take 50%. GK would have given the girl 600 Real without breaking a sweat.
If you know him personally, tell him to learn the language. Everybody is taking advantage of him because of his non-existent language skill. By now, everybody knows he is a walking ATM. However, he has a fighting chance to do well with new garotas with better language power.

I agree that GK's and my appproaches are totally different, but you were right to point out the language issue. Whether you are in SP or BA, knowing the language and the going rates are key to "smart" mongering. GK does not want the hassle, it's sort of like car shopping some people research and bargain, some people go to a dealer and say "that is exactly what I want" and pay asking price no hassle. Drive it out. Not to say that that approach is wrong, just not what I do.
That's not to say that I don't overpay, but I try to stay as close to the going rate as I can.

I met Exon in November of 2005 in Buenos Aires. Roxanna introduced us. I found Exon to be fun and extremely helpful. I was a newbie and he was gracious with his time on his vacation. Nonetheless, Exon took me to several clubs and he provided information that made my trip much better. I enjoy reading his reports.
