Junin 1787 4802-0500, this place is on the strip that includes Newport, between Guido and Vicente Lopez.
Open for 3 nights so far, this place was more recently a nicely upholstered gentleman's gambling lounge with direct feeds from the Hippodromo and San Isidro race tracks. But that little endeavour got shutdown by the police. They seemed a little dodgy then about curiousity of what was inside. Now they've got guys in suits across the main entrance with another guy suited up and in top coat down the way passing out tout cards. If you've seen "Guys and Dolls" you've got the look. It's always impressive to see real Gumba characters in action. I used to go to Elaine's in Manhattan on Friday nights, the night there was a suspicious fire in the Fish Market down along the East River, there were mob guys bold as brass profiling at Elaine's.
These guys are nervous about something, maybe it's just about being visible, compared to the rest of the strip they stick out like Dick Tracy cartoon characters. My favorite, Oscar, gave me a tour of the plush inside. He says they're planning to be the top and the center piece is a large stage with costumed balerinas, a dance floor and several times a night a spectacular show. Just to add to the all ready David Lynch surroundings, there's a midget dressed up in jockey gear and sequined hood. There's a medium sized restaurant to one side, screened off that's open 10 to 4.
Inside the place is plush, it's a 45 p get in, and a domestic drink comes with the ticket. Up a flight of stairs puts you into the main room. The place is so new that chicas are only just discovering it and making the scene. At least for now the drinks for chicas are 35 p. Same price as for your own drinks. 2 chica drinks to leave with one.
After sitting on my own for about 15 minutes I was joined by Amber, a Nicole Kidman look alike. We took in the show which was diverse and pretty interesting, had a dance on the floor and then left to go dance at Cloche on Uriburu for an hour or so, then finishing up the night at my place for a rocking good roll with Nicole Kidman until 5:30. 250 p.
If it sounds intriguing suggest you go now while they're still trying to build customers. Will be interesting to see if they get a raft of chicas like Madahos.

Hey thanks for the very imformative post. I was too busy keeping my two dates from killing each other to notice much of anything. I showed up with two chicas and left with two plus a few a numbers. I would like to go solo or with other Mongers to get the real flavor if this place, although I did see some major action while I was there. I honestly don't remember seeing too many working girls, all I saw was lots of couples, and some non-Pro chicas (unless they were there undercover)

Gave it close to a week before returning to see which way the Hippopotamus was pointing, on a Friday night. When I got in there were a lot of "couples" sitting on the main floor and in the cushy banquets around the far side. Never could figure if those chicas were on the game or not. There was a parade of minor shows going on across the stage and seats at the bar were full of chicas and guys. Plus more chicas floating around because there weren't good places to sit. The bar had a whack of import Scotchs lined up but for the get in drink I ordered a domestic which was a little rough, not the Dewars I'd had at the Alvear bar a couple of hours earlier but drinkable enough and avoided the import upcharge.
The chica talent varied all over, no bow-wows but not the ripe fruit you'd see at Madahos or the greatest rip in Buenos Aires that begins with a B and ends with a K, and I ain't going back no more, no more.
So I just Sat still and the cruising began. An hour or so later girls that can normally be found at Newport any night of the week started flocking in. I finally picked one that looked interesting, bought her a drink because I figured it was necessary based on a previous conversation about 2 drinks to go out. We left before she finished her first drink and the tab was still 35 mine, 35 p hers and I got the impression from the bar tender that no drink would of been fine. If that's the case, this is one of the cheapest gets in town with live shows and good service. Until they pull the reins in, ride the Hippo.

Cover was 45p including a drink.
After Madaho the night before I liked it better there.
They have a large dance floor where you can take the girl which I like but also some weird shows involving a midget and strange outfits.
The choice of girls was decent, maybe around 25-30 ladies, I recognized some from Newport next door.
One of the girl there, Jessica, was very pushy and managed to get me hard by constantly rubbing on me so we went and sat down.
We had a lot of make out, some dances, I paid her a drink, 35p and after that she refused all other drink offers from management, which was nice of her.
I had a good time in the place and took her home for 200p, we had agreed on TLN but I felt like sleeping and she left after about an hour. Sex was good and she did a great job on the bj.
I would go back to that place, I liked the setting and the prices are better than in Madahos.
I dropped by on Saturday night. It was about 2:30 The place was fairly quiet. The quality was poor. I did not even bother to finish my drink.
In short, the mujeres (I can't say chicas in this case) had all long passed their best before date.
Some girls told me that many former street girls are now working here.
Overall 2 or 3 cute chicas.
The decor and setup are pretty cool.

I went to Hippopotamus last night with one of my favorite chica friends. I just loving going to this place to do some chica recruiting. It was a little slow at 2 am but really picked up later, I ran into some other chica friends. I met up with the owner and the boliche manager. The manager told me that Friday and Saturday nights are usually for couples, but also said Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were best nights for chicas. I am planning some more visits to this boliche over the next couple of weeks so if anybody wants to hang out with me in the VIP section, get the best service and have me a broker a deal with the chica on your behalf (fluent in Spanish) just drop me a line.

I went here last night with an old "girlfriend" that I haven't seen in almost a year. Apparently she is shilling for this club now, and admitted she gets a pretty good commision on anything her "dates" buy.
Admission is 50 pesos, but was waived perhaps because we were going to eat, or perhaps just because.
Overall the place has been refurbed into a pretty classy joint, much bigger then Black. The owner used to own Shampoo, which he sold and bought this place, and kept the theme of several REALLY foxy dancers pole-dancing in various corners of the room. I'm not sure what the "official" policy is, but the reality is the dancers (at least some) are available for anyone who wants to pony up some real cash for the priviledge - I was quoted 1000 pesos for the one my friend and I agreed was our favorite, but there were 5 or 6 of them and all quite lovely.
There is a small restaurant next to the bar, covered now in winter, but looks like an open terrace in summer. There is a large window that separates the bar from the restaurant, so you can check out chicas while you dine.
The food was pricey, but not bad. Had a carpachio de salmon entrada, and a pork tenderloin with a nice sweet/spicey tomato sauce, she had trout with something sauce, dessert and a couple of glasses of white wine. The total bill was $199 pesos. Too much, but not too bad a rip considering the quality and location of the place. The service was excellant, for what that's worth, and the waitress was also pretty cute!
After dinner we slid around the corner to look at chicas, of which there were perhaps 20 or so in place by midnight. Quite a variety, but the manager needs to crack down on the dress code a little as many of them looked like they would be right at home at Exedra. There were actually several quite pretty girls there, none as HQ as the dancers but definitley pretty, as well as the usual assortment of unfortunates with their little tummies hanging over there too-tight jeans. Those girls can't seem to figure out how to hide their flaws.
There were strip shows as well, in case you are curious what live nude girls look like after they pay lots of money to have their breasts disfigured.
There was also some well-known (I was told) Argentine TV star on the menu, again for 1000 pesos (I hear) in case you want to fuck someone famous.
One little dominican girl (chocolate skin and actually one of the prettiest girls there) gave my girlfriend the hots, and she decided she wanted me to take her home for her to play with. That seemed like a goofy way to spend too much money, but what the hell we invited her over to chat. At first she wanted 400 pesos, but dropped quickly to 300 when I choked on my drink.
Needless to say, I politely told her to beat it, but I got the feeling the price structure is pretty much the same as Black/Madaho, with your mileage varying depending on your appearance, attitude, fluency, and the state of the moon.
The little glasses of cheap champagne we were drinking cost 50 pesos each, and I don't know how much chica drinks are - I bet they aren't real cheap.
All in all, I would say for those on a Black budget it is a clean and classy place that may be worth a visit.
Oh ya, when I left they gave me a card good for a free admission next time.

Continuing on where my friend Capt Dave left, a few nights later the said foxy “girlfriend” of him offered to let a group of six horny mongers in the club without any cover charge.
So, having first met at El Alamo and later dined at Hereford, myself, the good Captain, Jackson, Santa Fe, JustGotBack, and another non posting monger friend headed to meet the foxy girlfriend above at La Biela in Recoleta. There she was, elegantly dressed in a fur coat and waiting for the Argentina Private delegation. We greeted and made some small talk and then headed out for Hippopotamus.
The club is located on the restaurant row in Recoleta, not far from the Etoile hotel. It took us about a minute to reach it, and we all went around (!!) the metal detector and up the stairs into the main atrium, of course, without paying the 45 Pesos entrance fee.
Once inside, the club immediately struck me as a classy joint. Capt Dave has done a good job of explaining the layout in the last post, and I will only add a few points. The main bar and a large dance floor are on the main level, flanked by 4 “poles” where some highly delicious dancers exhibit their trade. There is a stage area, where some live singing of well known classics (think Frank Sinatra’s favorites or Gloria Gaynor’s “I will survive”) takes place. On both sides of the stage, there is a smaller “booth” type dance floor used by the “supporting cast”. An interesting touch was when a back lighted screen was hung in front of one of these booths and a strip tease act ensued behind the screen. This produced very enticing, sexy shadows on the screen, á la James Bond. The restrooms are upstairs and are of the “attended” variety, so take a few pesos up with you for the obligatory tip.
Shortly after entering, Jackson proceeded to the bar area and that was the last I saw of him. The remaining five mongers and Capt Dave’s girlfriend sat together in a semi-circular seating area close to the dance floor, and ordered our first drink. A few of us ordered beer, I and Dave ordered mineral water, and his girlfriend, of course, champagne. I think everything other than the champagne was 40 Pesos, and the champagne 60 pesos.
We sat there for about an hour and a half, and there wasn’t a lot of pressure to buy additional drinks. We watched the shows, talked, and danced a little. It came out in the conversations with Capt Dave’s girlfriend that the pole dancers could be arranged for an “encounter” somewhere around 4-5am, and the price, although negotiable, was to be in the 400 Pesos range. The time, at that point, was about 2am and as such Member #3313 was not going to hang around in a loud smoky place for another 3 hours waiting for his fourth chica of the day.
A few chicas sat together with Member #3313, each starting out with a quote of 400 pesos and dropping down to 200 Pesos quickly. At one point, Member #3313 was close to making a deal with two chicas for a threesome, each at 200 pesos. However, the deal breaker came when they wanted to get paid upfront. Once any chica sat down, there would immediately be a waiter asking for their drink order. Of course, Member #3313 would repel such waiters until it was established that the chica sitting with him would be the take out chica. Knowing that a chica of similar quality could be had for 100 Pesos at SF 1707 just a short cab ride away kept Member #3313 from making any selection. Finally, as Member #3313 was about to Leave the club to exercise said option above, a very interesting and unusual situation arose.
Our friend Santa Fe was spotted speaking to a completely “Asian” chica by the bar. I remember from reading this forum that there have been a number of inquiries about Asian providers in B.A., and to my knowledge no one had identified a fully “Asian” provider so far. Well, friends, this one was as “Asian” as they come. She had a very slender body, and long silky hair flowing gracefully down to her hips. Usually being an inmate in Sex Prison and having only Korean AMP’s available to him as the sole mean of “quick relief”, Member #3313 would not normally seek Asian providers while abroad. However, there was something very unusual about this slender, beautiful, Japanese girl with long silky hair speaking to him in Spanish!
And there came a generous offer from Santa Fe I could not refuse. He would pay for the salida drink of the chica if I were to test-drive her and pass his contact info to her if and only if she was good. So, with that in mind, I asked Tamiko (yes, with an “O” in the end) to sit down for a drink. I quickly negotiated her down to 250 Pesos from a ridiculous astronomical initial (unsolicited) quote, thanked my friend Santa Fe for his offer, paid my 40 Pesos for the mineral water (!!), said my goodbyes to everyone, and got up to leave with this chica.
Here was the only part of the encounter where it got a little unpleasant. Tamiko started asking for little tips for different people. First, she asked for a 10 Peso tip for one of the waitresses. I just don’t like clubs in general, and normally would not comply with these kinds of ridiculous requests. However, at that point, having essentially been engaged by Santa Fe to test drives this girl I didn’t want to break the deal. The waitress took the 10 pesos and thanked me so many times in such a sincere, surprised way that it made me feel a lot less bad. Tamiko later asked for a tip for the wardrobe guy, and then one for the doorman, and as I mentioned, I would have normally just laughed and walked at this point, but I felt obliged to carry out my end of the bargain for Santa Fe. Once on the street, we quickly hopped into a cab for the 3 minute drive to my Recoleta monger pad.
Shortly before reaching my apartment, literally around the corner form it, Tamiko let out a sigh of exclamation, saying “Oh, you live HERE?”. Yes my dear, I do. “But oh my god, we are neighbors!”, said Tamiko in a rather embarrassed way. Member #3313, of course, could care less. As far as he was concerned, a deal was a deal and that was her problem.

I've been to the hippo on three occasions now over the last week [memo to self check online bank account] and have seen two different sorts of entertainment. On the first two occasions there were tango dancers and singers but last night it seemed to be a bit more erotic. I agree with you Mercboy. I was at the Hippo when I was in BsAs a couple of weeks ago and there was only 1 fat chica, 1 older, wore out chica and another very unfriendly chica, none I would consider taking even if I was drunk.
I was very dissapointed after hearing so many good reports about it. Luckily, I went to the restaurant first and avoided the cover charge. Afterwards, they the waiter will invite you to check out the club for free (or they did that night)
I enjoyed the Hippo a couple of times in May of 06 which was the last time I was in BA ~ however since then it has dropped off the charts.
Anybody have any recent intel on this place? Is it still open? Any pussy running around?

The Hippo was open through late December, but then closed up with a little sign hanging out front saying they were closed for remodeling and re-opening in a few weeks.

This place supposedly just re-opened. I wanted to check it out. I brought another board member to Madahos for the first time he ended up banging my favorita from there. No problema.
I needed a chica so I decided to check this place out.
Its 60p to get in.
I go in, and its a nice place appearance wise. Great sound system. They had some brazilan dancers there doing a small show.
I liked the fact that there is a big dance floor with the chicas dancing. I think dancing skills are in line with sex.
I had my eye on about 4 chicas right off the bat. The chicas were not as hot as Madaho's or La Lopez but I would say they were better than most places.
I had no idea what the price range was so I decided after about 15 minutes of just observing to test the waters.
I talked to 4 chicas, all were good dancers. I just got the feeling that they did not want to be there. They were just cold, and I got a bad feeling. I noticed this was prevalent through out after the fact by the looks on there faces. If they don't want to be in the club they probably would not like my apartment.
Price wise it was all over the place. 300p for TLN from one girl, to 400p for one sexo with another one. One girl said 400p was min, after I had already had the 300p TLN from the other chica. I knew there was bullshit involved at this point.
I went back to the TLN chica and was about to buy her a drink and they said it was 120p. At this point the place went to shit. I asked the door man on the way in and he said that chica drinks were 70p.
I just got a bad feeling about this place. Perhaps it was the second night, just getting started, maybe not.
There was no sign of Mirta, and the chicas had no idea who she was.

I went back here last night and talked to one of the english speaking hosts to clear up some stuff from the other night.
The rules are that there are no rules. They get what they can get.
The entry is standard, but the chica drink price is named by the chica and not the establishment so the chica can just make shit up. This makes sense from my last time wasting experience here.
I left without paying cover and would advise against wasting your time on this clip joint.

It seems like you can get private dances from the dancers at your table.
Left around 6.00 am and the place was still open.

I typically don't write to many reports on here as there are plenty of good and accurate reports on this board but I felt this was important.
I went to HIPPOPOTAMUS with a couple of other hobbyist last night. 60p entrance for one drink, expensive but ok. There were about 15 chica's on the dance floor 7 - 9's. Picked a few we liked and brought them back to the table to chit chat. A few minutes go by and I decide that I am interested in the chica (nervous but nice enough) I'm with and decided to buy her a drink. I wave the waitress over, order the drinks; the waitress disappears and brings back three drinks! One for each of the chica's my fellow mongers were with and an additional drink, which I ordered. I did not realize immediately and proceeded with the chit chat. All the while this chica is pretty nervous holding on to her friends hand that my fellow monger was talking with. After a little more talking I asked if she would like to go back to my place. Almost immediately she said no with a "are you crazy" look on her face. There must be some strange masochistic tendency that impels foreign guys with more money than sense to get ripped off in Recoleta clubs. Sure, it is still possible to find some great looking girls there, but you'll be lucky to find a good value experience now that tourism has really taken off in BA. Too many stupid tourists on two week holidays or business trips, who think $US200 + drink charges for one hour of mediocre sex with an average looking girl is great value. Two years ago things were different, but not any more.

Getting ready to return to BA and wanted to keep up with my obligation to share information. Please keep in mind that I was here last in November and at the time I was already fairly drunk. I can't remember costs of anything so the usefulness of my post is limited.
I had already picked up a regular girlfriend of mine from Madahos for the night and decided to try and find a girl for my friend or a second girl for me. I had walked by this place tons of times and never entered because heard such bad things about the club.
It was about 2:00 am and the club had a fun energy. It actually looked like a club inside with a dance floor in the middle. There were way more girls than guys and it really did seem like a reggae concert. Lots of people dancing. Several attractive girls but the two I approached both told me that they did not leave with guys they would just drink at club. Both were pretty but when unavailable what does it matter. Neither were dancers either so that put us off on asking any other girls because we felt uncomfortable.
I hate going to clubs that seems dead (La Lopez comes to mind) so I liked the party atmosphere. Definitely some eye candy but I felt like the hot girls were unavailable. We had a good time but never went back. I have to say this place is unique and if you want to change of pace at the end of the night it is worth a look.

Despite some of the negative reports below, I ventured here last night on the advice of a friend who was recently in BA for an extended period. I had been at Black earlier the the evening on the hunt for an upscale beauty, but the place was dead and I found the talent to be both mediocre and overly aggressive.
I arrived at Hippo around 2:00, was greeted warmly by a lovely morocha and escorted upstairs. The atmosphere was nice - many girls were dancing together on the dance floor and clearly enjoying themselves, not just putting on a show.
I was immediately approched by two girls from DR and a Brazilian, none to my taste but they were friendly anyway and accepted my refusals graciously. A very beautiful brunette spinner caught my eye and she made her way over. A student from BA, she was full GFE.
Price was 350 for "however long" - which turned out to be approx. 1.5 hrs with multiple pops. Chica drink has gone up in price to 150, which I consider to be a very bad deal and will probably cause me not to repeat, considering that I pulled a girl out of Madahos the night before for only 500 TLN (more than two years ago on my last visit, but things change)
I would consider going back to Hippo on a hunt for digits, since many of the girls seemed to be part-timers. Everyone has their own style but I find the privado scene a bit "icky" and the internet is a crapshoot, so my tastes limit me to places where I can try before I buy and without the awkwardness associated with privado lineups. YMMV, but Hippo is not the nightmare that others make it seem if your mission is very specific, as mine is.
I've been to most of the Recoleta clubs over the years but never to Hippopotamus. Decided it was time for a look-see.
Entrance fee was 80 pesos which included one drink. Inside, the place is quite large. Center area dance floor with some seating, most of the seating runs around the center area (except for the one side where the stage is). The guy outside had told me there were 140 chicas. I don't think there were that many but still quite a lot. Maybe 80 chicas and 60 guys. Decent music. Several dancers had santa hats to celebrate the season. Definately a "fiesta" atmosphere.
I found a seat off to the side to sit back and watch the scene while I had my drink. Over the next hour several chicas came over to sit down with me, sometimes in groups of two. On some (not all) occasions the hostess came over to ask if I wanted to buy the chicas drinks. Which cost 150 pesos. I said no thanks. I chatted most of them up for a few minutes then told them I was going to look around a little more but it was nice to meet them. I did use some of this time to check on pricing. Basically, 600 pesos is where many will start but there is room to negotiate down to 500 pesos or lower.
Eventually I start chatting up one of the hotter chicas, an 8.5 or 9. Brunette, classy elegant look, slim, natural DDs. We chat a little and eventually get to talking about buying her a drink and maybe taking her out. She plays with my dick a little through my pants, looks at me and says she will do "sin preservativo". I didn't get her to spell it out but the message seemed clear to me - oral sex without condom. I asked what other services she might offer. She says what do you like baby? I said I like between the breasts and she says yes... turca... no problem. I also said I like it if she can do a little striptease for me at my place and she said she could. She repeated her offer of "sin preservativo" and said something like "y los heuvos" and smiled at me. Well this type of explicit talk from a beauty like her was getting my blood flowing, but I played it casual and said I "might" be interested. I asked her price, she says 450 pesos. Seemed like a good deal. I bought her a drink for 150 pesos, chatted some more and soon we were off to my place. She looked great in the clothes she changed into to leave the club. In the taxi she was stroking me and getting me hard, asking if I was big. All things considered, my level of anticipation was quite high.
In my room, she asked for payment up front which was not too much of a surprise. She took off her clothes early on which further fueled my anticipation. Top notch body, incredible breasts. I inquired about the strip tease and she said sure, she will change into a special outfit she has. Which she did, and. Wow. Sexy as hell. I clean myself up in the bathroom for a moment and already I've got a raging hardon for this girl. Unfortunely, from this point on it went downhill. Fast. Back in the bedroom we are about the start the striptease but she asks me to get some money so I can tip her (motioning to slide the money under her thong strap) like in a strip club. I said I prefer to tip after. If we have a good time, I will give a nice tip after the session. Not good enough for her. She suggests a 100 peso tip and I repeat what I said earlier. She tries a few more times trying to convince me. I say I'm tired of talking about money. Please, no more talking of money. Things seemed to have stalled. So I say, look if you need a tip up front for the striptease, let's just not do the striptease. She says fine. And proceeds to remove her special outfit. Now get this - she doesn't stay nude. She puts back on her regular clothes. I ask her why she did this and she says its more sexy. Not good. I ask for a babyoil handjob. She is reluctant to start, saying it needs to be with preservativo. I say, no just your hands. Eventually she starts but it is so lame and unenthusiastic it goes nowhere. I say I'd like to try between her breasts but she insists it be with preservativo. I say, in the club you offered me oral sex without condom so what's the problem with between your breasts without condom. She says no, I misunderstood. I finally say forget it, she can leave. As she already had her clothes on, she got up and picked up her purse and was out the door in 10 seconds.
Of course I'm mulling this all over after she left. I felt I got ripped off. So I did something I haven't done before, I took a taxi back to the club and asked to speak with the manager. One of the security guys brings me up inside and off to the side (I think the dining area) and soon an older guy who said he was the manager came over. I explained I just had a bad experience with one of the girls. My points being (i) she spent the first 10 minutes asking for more money (tips) (ii) she put her clothes back on when I didn't provide the requested tips, (iii) she dídn't provide the services she said she would in the club. I don't get too much response from the guy but at least he listens. I say I want the money I paid her back. He asks how much, I say 450 pesos. He repeats the number with a slight frown, giving me the impression he though the amount was low. He says hang on, goes into the main area, and comes back with both the chica in question, and another lady who speaks english to help with the discussion. So I repeat my three points again (still in spanish). The english speaking lady asks what service did you expect that you did not receive? I say the chica offered oral sin preservativo. Well, this must have been their signal, like someone was holding up a giant cue card. Almost in unison, all three say "Impossible"... and proceed to vehemently deny this possibility. The guy explains they have a strict policy in the club, none of the girls do that. I repeat that she offered it to me. The chica says no, you misunderstood, she meant besos. Besos sin preservativo? WTF! I told the manager again, I swear she offered this service to me. But they all clamored no it was impossible. Their response totally reeked of "scam". I left that point alone and repeated my other points. The guy soon left and left me with the chica and the english speaking lady. The lady explained I need to negotiate all the services with the chica up front and that they cannot refund my money. I told her, no problem, but I will not come to your club again.
My total loss for this fiasco was about 700 pesos.
That's why I never pay upfront. I've had girls leave once or twice, but that ok, their are many more. Out of 20 girls maybe 2 left. The others went to the door, mad, once outside the door and i was closing it, they change their mind, and came back in.
I did not even give them money for a taxi when they left, without service.

Expensive as Madahos and Black, with the kicker that you will be lucky to get laid no matter how much you pay. The guys I know who used to go there before the renovation don't even think about going there anymore. Like the title says-AVOID!
I've never been to Hippopotamus and most likely never will. But another important lesson learnt here is always negotiate upfront to pay when finished. I'd say other than the price, that is more important than negotiating amount of time and types of service to be provided. It applies to chicas from any clubs, cafes, and boliches. The only exception is of course privados.

Whenever I come down to BA I always try to visit at least one new place. I like the adventure and enjoy doing some research, for my benefit and possibly others. Unless I get a "100% avoid" impression for a club (like Rouge), I'll be open to at least having a look. I read some poor reviews on Hippopotamus but thought it might be a mixed bag with at least some potential. And, I never read a detailed review/experience like I posted. I have no regrets on going in for a look, but unfortunately I got suckered by a beauty who turned out to have a script for ripping guys off. Mea culpa.
As an aside, though I don't need tips on places to go, sometimes for fun I ask taxi drivers for good night club reccomendations. To hear what they say. Several times I have heard them mention Hippo in the same breath as other good places in Recoleta. Not good for someone who doesn't know better!

Gipse - I usually pay up front when asked. I think I explained why in some other thread last year. Although on repeat sessions I may say I'll pay after and the chica has always been fine with it.
If I insist on paying after, that may help me avoid a poor session or a rip-off. Or maybe not. The chica could still go ahead and provide a lousy time while technically adhering to a previous agreement on services. Lousy enough to make you send her home early. If payment is then withheld even in part, a scene could ensue. Alternatively, with a chica who would otherwise provide good service, I run the risk of diminishing the session by an insistance on paying after. She may not warm up to me as much as she might have. I also run the risk of the chica leaving altogether. Or not even getting the chica in the first place.
If I pay up front, obviously I run the risk of a poor session or rip-off. But I may also improve a session by getting the issue out of the way for the chica and letting her focus on me. Maybe not.
My success rate for good sessions is generally high, so I have not modified my approach. If a kept having sessions like the one from Hippo I might reconsider my approach, but this one was the exception not the norm. I don't want to make a scene from a dispute where I stay. Also as a visitor my time is valuable and I'm not inclined to waste time looking around until I find a chica willing to accept payment after, or waste time by having the chica walk out on me.
On balance, it is not clear to me at all that my odds of improving the quality of a session increase by paying after. And there are downsides that at this time outweigh the risk of a poor session / rip-off for me.
I agree with Esten. Most girls who know you from past sessions will be quite comfortable waiting for their money. I know of a couple girls that got ripped off by their johns, so it's understandable that they would be leery of a stranger. One even got beaten up by the guy when she insisted on her money.
It's sometimes acceptable to put the money down where it can be seen, without handing it to the girl. At least she knows that you had the pesos to begin with. And insisting on paying after doesn't always get you a performance that makes it all worth it in the first place.

I liked the layout and the lighting. I could survey the place without straining my eyes or moving around.
Why does everyone hate this place?I definitely didn't hate it. I was in there one night last May or so. They've done a good job renovating about 80% of the place. They still have some work to do. It's definitely not Madaho's or Black, and there's a bit of the huckster element when they try to get you to go in, but it's a step up from the triangle.
My biggest issue was the chicas -- they take after the club's namesake. If you like plus-sized gals, then this is definitely a place that should be on your list. Not my cup of tea, but I know some guys like a bit of meat on the hips. If that's changed, I'd go back. But I couldn't find a single thing that would work for me there other than the two Amazonian table dancers -- wow!
By the way, I found it pretty easy to get them to waive the entry fee -- just threaten to walk. But, in the end it doesn't make much difference. You get a free drink with the entry fee, if memory serves, so you don't save much by refusing the cover unless you don't plan to have a cocktail.
That said, there have been others who have complained about their tabs in this place. My recollection is that this may be due to a monger's failure to ask about drink prices in advance. If so, it's not much grounds to complaint.
Why does everyone hate this place?Sure the place is nice inside. If you want to just look and drink it could be all right. The customer satisfaction record with chicas is a different story. Go back and count up all the good experiences with chicas from this place. It shouldn't take you long.

I'm a long time visitor of Buenos Aires and I have to say this place has grown on me. Part of my problem is that for Madahos, my personal favorite club, there just aren't that many new girls to keep it as fresh as I would like.
That being said the other clubs I used to like Black (significantly down hill and still expensive) and La Lopez (seems like it will close any day now) were so lacking my last trip that I ended up giving Hippo a real shot.
First, I have been to this place several times over the last few years and I really never liked it. To loud, girls to aggressive, and prices a little more than they should be. This time I spent more time here out of default of the other venues and was pleasantly surprised. There were alot of very attractive girls and the energy is good. This place has tons of dancers so there is always someone nice to look at. There is definitely a little more hustle to the girls here but if you let them know that you understand how things work they are quick to back off unrealistic demands. Went with at least 4 different chicas and did not have a single bad experience.
Still a little pricier than Madahos (and not better) but this is not an avoid club to me. If you want to check out a spot that always has a big selection and have an overpriced drink you will not be disappointed.
For a city as large as BA, where P2P is legal no hassle, I see the same handful of places popping up? Especially considering average income and economic conditions, there has to be a lot of service providers.

You can definitely get into Hippo for free. When they demand to get paid up front, just turn around and walk away. They'll Chase you down for a free entrance. That's worked for me the past three times in there, including this past Summer and this past November. It would be better if they recognized you and just let you pass, but I haven't gotten there yet. At Madaho's and Black, I don't believe I've ever even been asked to pay a cover.
That said, it's not particularly worth it to avoid the cover at Hippo if you're planning to have a cocktail anyway. I can't remember the difference between the entrance fee and the drink prices, but I don't think you save much by not paying the cover -- if you're planning to have a drink anyway.
At any rate, great report. I'd put this place on a par with Black, which I don't particularly like much. But, it's very, very different than either Madaho's or Black in terms of layout and format. At the end of the day, I used this place exactly as you did -- as a change of pace when you get tired of the faces at Madaho's and Black. The girls at Hippo definitely have improved since this past July. I certainly wouldn't give it five stars, but it's more worth a look now than it was, and it appears to be on the upswing. I've read the reports here about overcharging but didn't have any issues when I was there. Prices are just a tad lower than Madaho's, if I recall correctly, and bottle service is relatively cheap (key word being "relatively")

I don't understand why everyone hates on this place so much. While I will admit that the place is over priced they do have some of the better talent in the Recoleta. I would suggest checking it out. Hard to say if anything was 'wrong' with what you describe without knowing more details. Irrespective of whether you believe TL posts with other aliases or not, it's not a disqualifier to assume because TL has carriage returns everywhere and person XYZ doesn't that it can't be TL posting anon self promotions.
The very first and obvious thing a person with known, distinct writing style would do is manufacture a normal or non-signature style if posting under alias. No matter what you think TL may or may not be, he's or anyone like him isn't going to be brain dead stupid enough to post under an alias using exact same carriage return style. Especially given he's said here multiple times he's not doing it as a subconscious style but specific conscious election under mistaken assumption it makes easier to read

Also the newbie's paragraphs are very short, only two or three sentences, even though there is never a carriage return. I saw a misspelling in the newbie's post that I have seen TL spell correctly (it is actually a British spelling) , and I see evidence English is not the newby's first language. I thought maybe he was Indian. I am very very very VERY good at spotting writing patterns. Some I see and some I don't. If someone wants to point towards some other suspected aliases of TL's I will analyze them too and maybe I will become convinced one way or the other.

I know your not really defending me but your on the right track.
I have been helping guys on this board for about 7 years I think, right after I opened the resto and for the last 3 years I have put more time into helping guys, posting whatever comes to mind and presenting girls, etc.
You mention David 33, I know him personally, he does exist, he's been to the AP house for dinner many times.
I did not know that he recommends girls, he does not post very often.
You mentioned being able to spot someone by a certain writing style or misspelled word and I was able to spot one of the boys posting under an Independent Chica's thread by a grammar defect that he always used since he is not a native speaker. He was writing "Her" replies under her name.

What other fucked up countries have I been to? The Bahamas stands out in my mind. Spain is pretty fucked up these days. I think any country with over 20% unemployment is going to be fucked no matter what other factors you have. The US is fucked up in a lot of ways, mostly morally. México is pretty fucked up these days. Any country where the cops have to buy their own bullets is probably going to be fucked up. Plus that country has had so many presidents, ex-presidents, and presidential candidates assassinated I can't see where any sane person would have the balls to even try to run the place.
Argentina, though, is probably the saddest example of all the fucked up countries because they had so much and lost it so fast. I mean, 85 years ago they were 7th in the world in GDP and now they are between 25th and 28th, depending on whose numbers you look at. That is quite a drop. They are behind Belgium and that whole country is about the size of the Retiro bus station. And it's not like there were tons of wars or earthquakes or plagues. Just pure, simple greed and mismanagement.

You walk up some stairs that lead you into an area that has a long bar in a fairly narrow hall that opens up into a couple of sitting areas.
The Chicas line up against that long wall that is opposite of the long bar, maybe 7ft. Between the bar and the wall. Usually 3 dancers dance on top of the bar with g-strings on and every once in a while a Featured Dancer will come out and do a full strip show for 1 song. In 2005 the quality of the Chicas was outstanding!

You walk upstairs and into a very large square shaped room with a bar on the right and the stage accross the room. The walls are lined with sofas on 2 sides and then the large dance floor at a lower level is lined with VIP style sofas and various chairs on three sides. It's a great set-up. Usually about 20 girls dancing at any given time on a special platform that is at the perfect level, up to 80 Dancers on a good night rotating along with Dancers that will stand on your coffee table or perform lap-dances.
Excellent service from the waitstaff plus there is a Featured Dancer that will perform on the pole every 20 minutes or so, stripping down to nothing at times. There are several featured dancers per night, many. The regular dancers all wear the dental floss g-strings so it's a thing of beauty! Then at about 1:30 am they put ALL the Dancers on the stage at one time and present them by name, maybe 2 at a time; they strut to the pole, spin around and return to the stage. Imagine about 40. 50 girls in front of you on the stage at one time. Lovely bunch of coconuts! That line up is worth the price of addmission alone. Then there are the regular Hookers that are spreadout all over the place. So on a great night there will be about 120 girls to look at, mixed nuts. The lighting is bright enough so you are less likely to make a mistake and buy an ugly girl an expensive drink.

I am not Argentinean. Good things about Argentina: Foz de Iguazú, La Ruta de Siete Lagos unless it is still fucked up with the volcanic ash, Salta, Fanne Foxe. Just because it has a lot of physical beauty does not mean it isn't all fucked up economically. And a lot of the formerly good things have disappeared, such as good cheap steaks and $5 Clarin hookers.

No; I lived there for almost seven years but I left because it got too fucked up. Yes, I am fluent and in the dialect. I understand the essence and character of the society quite well, and it is deeply flawed. I also have a degree in Latin American history and have studied the Argentinean economy extensively. I fucked over 500 Argentinean women which also gave me an in depth cultural understanding.

I remember when I was about 10 years old, an my father with three kids trying to make both ends meet and during a Christmas Eve, the landlord of the apartment he was renting, came to him handled a bunch of "pesos" and said This is for you to buy gifts for your kids!
That is how bad the argentines are, and my 'nano' personal point of view to qualify a country. A country that is so bad, that before, during, and after both World Wars people from all over the world (mostly "old" Europe) came to the welcoming country of Argentina and stayed there for the rest of their life.

I am not Argentinean. Good things about Argentina: Foz de Iguazú, La Ruta de Siete Lagos unless it is still fucked up with the volcanic ash, Salta, Fanne Foxe. Just because it has a lot of physical beauty does not mean it isn't all fucked up economically. And a lot of the formerly good things have disappeared, such as good cheap steaks and $5 Clarin hookers.

I understand the essence and character of the society quite well, and it is deeply flawed. I also have a degree in Latin American history and have studied the Argentinean economy extensively. I fucked over 500 Argentinean women which also gave me an in depth cultural understanding.
A lot of my Argentinean friends are embarrassed by the corruption and inefficiency.
But it doesn't have trash and dog shit everywhere and the merchants are nowhere near as dishonest. I lived there and did not like it. The food and weather are both terrible and the women are worse than American women.

I will agree that what is now known as Argentina won its independence from Spain but there was hardly a war over that. Barely even a conflict. I liked the part where Liniers tried to organize a counter revolution and all his soldiers deserted. Now THAT is the Argie style of warfare! And since there was no such country as Argentina in 1800 it was SPAIN who repelled Britain. Argies like to say they won the Triple Alliance. What did they win? They succeeded in not losing Corrientes. Repelling an invasion is not winning a war. How like an Argie to redefine not losing as winning. I've traveled even more than Dickhead, and I've lived in many different countries on 3 different continents and Argentina is a sh1t-hole compared to all of them. I rank it below Saudi Arabia on the 'nice places to live' scale (and I've spent 6+ years in both of them, so it's a fair comparison). I've also got very good friends in all those countries I've visited and lived in, but not a single male Argentinian friend, simply because ALL the ones I've met have been as trustworthy as the statistics output by INDEC. The one good female Argentinian friend I have detests the place (and its men) even more than I do!
Oh, and I don't give a damn about the Malvinas / Falklands, but I am capable of reading and do understand history sufficiently to know that the Argentinians have absolutely zero verifiable claim to them. Peron ordered that a bunch of lies about them should be made part of the school curriculum and several generations of Argentinians have subsequently been brainwashed into thinking they have some claim. The current generation doesn't appear to have the intelligence to do some reading for themselves. It's pretty sad really.

Because its so fucked up it makes living here fun. I have a few male Argie friends but I have special circumstances. The funniest part of this whole exchange was DH having better depth of knowledge than Argie guy about his own country.
Most pathetic part was when he called him a superman coming to save the country. I laugh till I piss every time I see you guys do that. You have this unfounded pride in a country so horribly run. I fucking love it here because there is zero competition from the locals and you can buy anybody you want for whatever you want to do.

My work allows me to live in any part of the world.
I actually packed bag and baggage and shifted here to actually "live" here by will.
The only and only reason is that I can get laid here 24/7 without any problem. Despite the inflation, I can afford it. In fact, I can afford to live in almost any country in the world but i chose to live here. I am not here to immerse myself in the culture or do Tango or do wine tasting or learn to speak Spanish , Argentine style. I am only here because I like to fuck on a daily basis without any legal or logistics issues to bear with.
Despite all the issues / problems discussed here and on other forums, I have no issues living here. I never had problems in 4-5 years here. The only time I had problems here (4-5 problems in 4-5 yrs) was with some foreigners who over stay on tourist visa, do not pay taxes and think they are are above the law and can get away with anything. I have got these foolish threats from these stupid foreigners "Oh we are waiting outside your apartment. Come out and I will kill you." I have gone and stood outside, with my hockey stick, awaiting them for 30-45 minutes with no sign of them! They are the only jokers I have seen in this country. They stay here, fuck the women, do not pay taxes, abuse the system, propagate crime, consider themselves above the law and the country and always cribbing how expensive things are 24/7. I only tell them "Mate, what the fuck are you doing here. Piss off from here if you are suffering so much! "
I have many many male and female (no pro) Argie friends and I think pretty highly of them. Never ever they gave me any problems or try to act funny with me. Many times when I had difficulties and called them in the middle of the night, they came by and stood by me. I have no complaints about them.
Yes, few times I have faced mugging here but by my 24/7 presence of mind escaped it. For that matter, just in last couple of years I have been mugged or almost mugged in Shanghai, Lima, Panama City and Mexico City. Shit happens everywhere.
Regarding inflation and other problems, I have lived in over a 10 countries in last 15 years in 6 different continents. I have seen worse and I am not complaining. I packed a bag and moved to Argentina too (my work also allowed me to live anywhere in the world) and like I said, I enjoyed it. I had a couple problems, three total, with Argies as far as to where things got physical. I went two out of three there. Twice they tried to rob me but went 0 for 2 there. What finally drove me out was the inflation because I didn't have the ability to increase my dollar income to compensate, plus it is just fucking annoying after a while and makes it hard to plan. Other factors were the litter and dog shit everywhere, the ridiculously low quality of the local products, the lack of culinary imagination, and the mentality that the easiest way to make money is to cheat someone else out of it. The latter they mostly try to do in humorous ways but it just gets old after a while. Oh yeah and strikes, and "no hay cambio, no hay monedas, pero tiene que pagar 25 centavos más por la cerveza fría que de verdad es muy tibia. ' However, improvements or perceived improvements in my own country factored into my decision to leave as well, as did the aging process which seems to be reducing the marginal value of pussy in my case.
Remember an Argie started the thread about how fucked up the country was and I just sorta piled on. I've tried to stick to the facts for the most part although I am still waiting for the 24th province.

Argentina has very good relations with all (I think all!) countries in the world, (Ghana?) , because Argentina has a class of its own recognized because its people are well educate (and respectful!) to other countries.

The typical Argentinean is a very educated person that has class, and very sensitive to others. If you need a glass of water. More likely someone will give to you in Argentina. In 'some' other places. Try that! They will simply ignore you!

People from the US can be arrogant too but we at least can point to a number of inventions, creations, and innovations.
