Big news Mongers,

Last night while having coffee with Punter, Sidney & Tequila Tim, "Hilda" stopped by our table for a little chit chat. Well of course I invited her to sit down with us and bought her coffee.

As it seems, that after 30 years of Hilda running the girls and guarding the front door of Excedra, Hilda is going to change jobs. Think about that for a second Mongers, 30 years of working running girls at Excedra, Wow, Yikes.

Now from what I gleaned from the conversation is that Hilda is the "Madam" at Excedra, (Something we've all known for quite sometime) but she came right out and said so last night. Well now she's moving to Recoleta for better money, fewer working hours and better working conditions. She went on to say that now she only has to work from 12:00 to 5:00 am in the morning seven days a week for $1,500 pesos a month.

I'm not famious for my Spanish, but at first it sounded like she said she was going to work at New Port which didn't make a lot of sense. But then "Hippopotamas" was mentioned and it sounds like Hilda will be the new Madam at Hoppopotamas when it re-open's some where around October 2nd.

We all wish Hilda the best of luck and will dearly miss her at Excedra. But it sounds as though we haven't lost Hilda, but gained a new club. I'm hoping against hope they run the new opperation like they do Excedra, but we know they won't, the gready MotherFuckers.

I hope this doesn't turn into bad news for those of us who like to hang out at Exedra. As I recall the owner died within the past year or so and his son took over. I hope this son isn't making some mistakes that might lead to more problems. Might be time to do some intel work with Arnaldo and others to see which way the wind is blowing.

You may be on to something here Dogg. I don't think she like the son.I hope I am wrong! BUT, my experience with son's running their old man's business has been consistently bad. Trying to fix what ain't broke, putting their own stamp on things, etc. If things get bad, we may need to picket the place, demanding the return of Hilda at an increased wage. No pictures please!

I'm wondering also which way the wind is blowing at Excedra. But maybe like Exon suggests, something new and cool could be happening in Recoleta.

Would this be the Hippopotamus that was two doors down from Newport?

It was closed my last trip there, and sounds like it has been for a while.

Okay okay, Exon, Hilda's thread...

Just curious to all good n'old mongers, does Hilda ever ask you for some money?

Every time I drop by Cafe Exedra, Hilda is there, she's been very kind and attentive to me. Once she asked me to give her some coffee money so I gave her some change. Another time she pointed who Jackson is, so she asked if I can help her for the drink.

About 2 of weeks of my trip last time, my contribution to Hailda was around 20-ish pesos.

Many times I have given Hilda 10 or 20 peso's or bought her coffee and in turn she has advised me on who to fuck and who not to fuck.

I was with Mirta / Hilda (or La Gallega as known by the locals) last night. She is going to start working at Hippopotamus about the middle of next month. She'll be managing the little Kiosko on the first floor (or second floor to the Americans) and part of her responsibilities will be to make the girls behave.

If any monger goes there just ask for La Gallega and she'll come down to meet you.

She'll get a $1500 monthly wage plus tips and so on which she is very excited about as, contrary to what a few people on this board think, she never gets anything at Exedra. I think she told me she'll be there from 7pm onwards.

I asked her about what was going to happen with Exedra and she didn't seem very happy with the way the new owner (the son of the old guy that died) is managing things but she couldn't give any concrete examples.

It appears that Hippopotamus will be opening with whistles and bells. International level shows etc. I'll reserve my opinion on this as I know one of the owner!

Hilda has always been pleasant. I generally say hello to her, and talk to her for a minute if she's chatty. I've asked her opinions a couple of times, but never felt they were really worthwhile. She's never asked for money or drinks, certainly.

I was with Mirta / Hilda (or La Gallega as known by the locals) Last night I learned that "Gallega" means Galician, i.e. a woman from Galicia, a region in the northwest of Spain.

Last night I learned that "Gallega" means Galician, I. E. A woman from Galicia, a region in the northwest of Spain.Although la Gallega means literally a lady from Galicia, it can also mean a lady from anywhere in Spain.

Although I was born many miles from Spain, I am "el Gallego" for many of my Argentine friends, just because I speak with a clear peninsular Spanish accent.

It is normally a term of affection but can be insulting depending on the tone.

In Hilda's case, I imagine it is both, depending on the speaker.

It can also be used for almost anyone with a Spanish surname even though he / she was born in Argentina.

Almost every Fernandez I know gets that nickname!

So Mirta is called La Gallega because of her surname and not because she was actually born in Spain.

As an insult, it is used for hard headed or stubbornness or for lack of intelligence and there are thousands of Gallego jokes - like Polish jokes in the USA.

"El gallego" is also used as a nickname for most bar owners because at one time almost all the bar owners in Buenos Aires were Spanish. (Proving that when it came to making money through hard work and sacrifice, the "Gallegos" weren't nearly as stupid as they are made to seem like)

Wow, it's amazing how many shades of meaning can be attached to this word.

I thought I had read somewhere in the forum that Hilda was actually originally from Spain, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

So I walked past Orleans tonight and there were 2 chicas standing outside the door - the better looking one was Marcela (I think - bad for names) We struck up a conversation and the hotel price was 70 pesos and her salida was 200. No mention as to for how long or what was included. Perhaps a reasonable starting point for negotiation but I just said too high and left.

Next stop Excedra where I caught the eye of a Dominicana sitting alone. Once again I forget the name. I walked through, stopped turned around, beconned her over where joined me and quoted, after a bit of chit chat - U$S 200 for hrs. This time I didn't even say "too high". My jaw hitting the sidewalk should have implied that though, and I left.

We don't need more old man rage. We have enough with 123 and 127.
