I've always been confused when I heard the word "Service" used with these agencies:

Internal Revenue 'Service'.

USA Postal 'Service'.

Telephone 'Service'.

Cable TV 'Service'.

Civil 'Service'.

State, City, County & Public 'Service'.

Customer 'Service'.

But today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had hired a bull to'Service' a few cows.

BAM! It all came into focus. Now I understand what all those agencies are doing to us.

You are now as enlightened as I am.

TL.When I was younger I used to recite the Jaycee creed at every meeting.

"That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;.

That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;.

That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;.

That government should be of laws rather than of men;.

That earth's great treasure lies in human personality;.

And that service to humanity is the best work of life. ".

You should read Herman Hesse "Journey to the East" or Thomas Mann "Confessions of Felix Krull, Confidence Man". Both ruminate on the servant master relationship.

Now all the civil servants are unionized and they object to the word the work "servant. " They find it demeaning. It marks the decline of western civilization at least the one that existed when I was born.
