Great idea Bad. The more the merrier.
That site has grown significantly over the past four or five months, and in my opinion, it now serves to prove the old saw that the average person is just average. A whole hell of a lot of those people have nothing of real interest to say, and even less of an idea of how to say it.
Here are a few that I consider above average and that I track pretty closely:
Buenos Aires: City of Faded Elegance - [url]http://baires.elsur.org/[/url] - Jeff Barry is a former librarian and brings a literary slant to the city with his posts. He gets out and walks some of the less-frequented neighborhoods, and from time to time unearths a real gem.
Saltshaker - [url]http://www.saltshaker.net/[/url] - Dan Perlman is a former chef from New York City who operates an in-house restaurant in Recoleta, and posts restaurant reviews from around the city most days of the week. I've had quite a few good tips from this blog (and a few interesting meals at his restaurant).
Line of Sight - [url]http://www.wrighton.com.ar/[/url] - Robert Wright is a tour guide who has a focus on architecture. Like Jeff Barry, he's another one who gets out and walks the city, and posts interesting historical insights into various neighborhoods and buildings.
Maneras Argentinas - [url]http://manerasargentinas.blogspot.com/[/url] - a group of locals who operate a small company dedicated to teaching foreigners about Argentine manners and customs. I've been to one of their wine tastings as well as a yerba mate class. Lot of interesting stuff to learn from these guys.
D for Disorientation - [url]http://dfordisorientation.blogspot.com/[/url] - Pablo Flores is an Argentino who writes from Rosario. Not of real interest to those in Buenos Aires, but if you're here for the duration, he provides some interesting insights into the government and how is does (and doesn't) work.
Idle Words - [url]http://www.idlewords.com/2006/04/argentina_on_two_steaks_a_day.htm[/url] - This is not a blog in the true sense of the word, but it's funnier than hell.

This isn't an expat blog, but a blog by a sharp-witted Argentinian chica about Argentine expressions and slang. What is really useful are her podcasts (click on headline sections to download) There are a couple dozen of them and they are useful not only for learning some expressions, but also getting used to the. Umm. Unusual accent here (ask an Argentine chica sometime to say "el pesto de esta pasta apesta—it's worth a laugh every time) You can also find the podcasts via iTunes (search: desde el baño)

This is some of the bullshit you see on the expat blogs down here.
Some guy and his wife do this blog, "Good Airs: More Than A Bad Translation Of Buenos Aires" - [url]http://www.goodairs.com/[/url]
Now, both of these two appear to be aspiring journalists, and they've written at least half a dozen articles for the New York Times, New York Magazine, and other print media outlets extolling the virtues -- real and imagined -- of expat life in Argentina. In short, they have been prime contributors to the expat influx here, and by extension, to some of the negative aspects of that influx. And there [u]are[/u] negative aspects to that influx.
But on their blog the other day, one of them wrote, "I really hope my [I]porteña[/i] accent improves enough so I can disassociate myself from both the bargain seeking and conspicuous consuming lot of [the influxing expats]."
What a hypocrite.

I have a Chilean maid and I don't have a problem understanding her but I have noticed that she says some things differently. However, I recently met some Chileans from Valparaiso and they were speaking so quickly and dropping so many syllables that it seemed to me like they were trying to speak Hebrew backwards or something. Her most recent podcast on Chile was really interesting. I'm going to enjoy rummaging around in the archives of this site.
