A year ago Iberia was about 80-100p for a very average girl. I do not have recent data. The beauty of BsAs and Argentina is that there is something for everyone - 20p to 2000p. Your money, your dick, be happy!

However, to say that the pricing structure can not be changed is nonsense. Ask any Argentine about lifestyle changes around January 2002. Argentines have proven they can endure hardships, the question remains what has been learned from them.

I have my theory of BA. In a nut shell it's this -

Sta Fe Avenue - Rich girls that don't have to look good because they are going to marry rich husbands whatever happens. Sloppily dressed and don't give a flying fuck!

An invasion of gringo mongers may vary a little the pricing but the girls on Avda de Mayo expect to get plumbers and bus drivers as customers and price accordingly.

And Iberia is a good place for the Avda de Mayo experience with quite a few decent priced restaurants around but don't expect much English spoken in the area.

By law in Argentina, they have to get a payment based on how long they worked at Exedra. Some of the waiters have worked there close to 20 years, so it's a few years pay.

She said that the son of the owner who died, owed allot of money, and took the money from the sale, to pay it off. The waiters are going to take the place to court, unless they get their money, which would delay it's re-opening. She also said she has not seen any renovations being done, it looks the same. I have not been there since they closed, so I have no idea.

So with an employee who has been working for 20 years, you are looking at about 23-24 months in severance pay. The workers will get the money eventually. It just seems like the owner is an asshole and an idiot.

He'll end up paying the workers in monthly instalments where he'll "forget" to pay every two or three months and the worker has to get a court order "reminding" him to pay or even worse, he'll file for bankruptcy and never pay anything again. The only real difference I see between Argentina and the US is that they are required by law to pay severence, but the severance you receive is very similar to what you would receive in the US (being layed off from a white color job, for example).

But like many things here, what the law says and what actually happens aren't always the same thing.

In France, depending how long you have been with a company, it is typical to get a year's severance. I know people who have gotten over 2. Also, in France, there are laws that prevent companies from laying people off without sufficient reason (keeping the stock price up generally isn't considered sufficient reason).

Walked by their today and nothing has been done, almost a month now. The place just sits there empty with no activity. The place was a gold mine and now its nothing. Plus now everyone is out on the street with no real place to go.

But what I can't understand is why shut down a perfectly good, profitable business and do nothing with it for almost a month now.

What I'm trying to say is why not keep it running until the very last minute. If renovations are going to be made and a new business plan put in place why not wait until everything is ready, then shut it down.

Counting the girls, the street erchen's, (Flower girls and the like) waiters, bartenders, kitchen people and so on, almost a 100 people have been displaced. Plus a months revenue, which is not "chump change" by the way.

Nothing seems to add up, so there must be some story we'll never know thats forced this change of events.
