Thought I would give new meaning to "Snow Bird." Signed, sealed and delivered, Christmas and New Years in Buenos Aires. Nieces and Nephews will just have to go without this year. Anyway, everyone take care.
1st time here. I've been to Rio and other cities in Brasil 22 times and Asia 12 times and have a B & B in Batam, Indonesia. Love Mongering. I teach CS in the USA and would like to team up for a few beers and stories. Also am looking to invest in BA maybe and live there.
Anybody up for dinner tonight? I want to see one of you really experienced guys for some hardcore BsAs mongering tips!
I'm finally getting back. May take a week trip out of the city for touristy pictures to show the family and let little PC recover some, but drop me a PM if anyone wants to get together for cold ones or trolling for hot ones for hot ones.
Cheers,
PC
Beezer here.
Just got into BA a few days ago. First time ever.
Quite impressed with daytime commings and goings at Orleans.
I have tried a few free lancers at Newport in Recoleta.
300 P average cost.
I would like to find a decent one that doubles as a lunch mate / tour guide during daylight hours. Too much to ask?
We will see.
I am staying in Recoleta (near the cemetary) if anyone wants to compare notes over coffee.
The advice to "dust off the bar pig" seems like it's spot on.
Good luck fellow mongers.

Ya know I feel like I'm at a dammed AA meeting here, but no time like the present- Hi my name is Soi-dog and I'm a monger.
Spent my very best years in and out of SE Asia and decided to branch out to SA. Making my first trip to BA for most of March and found this chat site. You guys are for the most part quite candid, informative, and impressively respectful of the gals. So now that the formalities are out of the way. I now know to find Excedra and Orleans and the action for the most part seems to be in Microcentro? I don't have any sense of proximity, but was thinking of basing in some apt in San Telmo. Are the logistics sound? Any other thought for a newbie?
I don't remember the last time I was up at 4:30 am. Good to know there is afternoon delight around. Thanks.
Was thinking about San Telmo for the ambiance but too many safety references and San Martin sounds closer to the action. Any thoughts?
Great site- Thanks.

I live in San Telmo and it is off the beaten path a bit. You would better off mongering wise, camping in the Microcenter, parts of Centro or Barrio Norte. Or Recoleta. Much closer to the action and easier to navigate around for a newbie. My first time in town was in Recoleta. Exedra is still closed by the way. Suerte.
Hello all,
First, thank to all for the posts and good information that I have been reading about Argentina. I will be arriving at EZE on Thursday morning and have a few questions -
1 - What is the best way to travel from the ariport to Barrio Norte. Cab?
2 - Does anyone know of a gym in the Barrio Norte area? I haven't seen any references to gyms in be. A.
3 - I have been looking at Jackson's maps and think I have found the location of my hotel - Hotel Prince. It looks like there is lots of action in that area, but if anyone can mention a few things close to the hotel it would be appreciated.
Also, if anyone wants to meet at Madahos or Cafe Orleans - or anywhere else, I'll buy the first round!
Thanks for any advice!
1) I don't know if the BEST way, but ONE way is Taxi Ezeiza - http://www.taxiezeiza.com.ar/ - site seems to be broken at the moment but I am sure it will be fixed quickly.
2) I don't know the best search arguments, but health/fitness clubs have certainly been discussed here and in many other places on the Internet. Once possibility, not the cheapest, is Megatlon (http://www.reddeclubes.com/pagina2008/index.asp) - I think that they have one in Barrio Norte.

Thanks for any advice!
Forget all the pre-planning for taxi travel from Ezeiza to the city. Walk out from arrivals, hail a standard black & yellow Capital Federal cab that will certainly be loitering, ask if he will turn the meter on for the trip. If he prefers not to, the set and exceptable fare is 70 pesos, although he will try for 80 or 90. By meter the fare is about 65 or 70. Simple and no desperate effort required to ensure a hook-up. And there are hundreds of them. If you don't get either of these two agreements, get another cab and don't put your cases in the cab untill the agreement is reached. If he tries to change the deal, stop the cab and get out but it never comes to that. Just be firm and polite. I am there every 3 or 4 weeks and it never fails.

Sorry to say my two weeks in BsAs is over and I am back in the cruel world of bad news and bad looks.
My thought was to come down to BsAs once a year, but I have so fallen in love with the place that I plan to come down in July & Jan.
What's the chica situation then (July)
Certainly they will not be wearing their short shorts and skimpy tops.
My friend (an old BsAs salt) who talked me into coming down in the first place, said "The easy part is getting here. The hard part is the leaving"!
Boy did he have it right.
I have been back in the USA just a few days and I find myself wishing I were back with you guys. I mean girls.
Keep em warm men. I shall return!
