Some comments on Mpexy's post-and thanks for the info. I have never seen any evidence of LSD being addictive, and if there is "any" it is more bogus horseshit cooked up by the righteous right. Limbaugh's run in with the law was clearly not political. It may have ended up with alot of politics involved because of his notoriety, but he was HEAVILY involved in working multiple physicians for scripts of oxy and derivitives. I don't remember the details, but recall at the time being amazed at the extent of his involvement, addiction wise and with the expected legal ramifications. Those kinds of cases ARE prosecuted regularly, but with folks not as well known, and plea bargains are frequent. Yes, his case became a political football, but there were legit criminal offenses. In fact, he is probably lucky he was caught. It sounds like he was out of control and being out of control with Oxy is very dangerous. Ask any ER doc.

I'm not going to become embroiled in a debate on LSD, whether of it's properties or political position on use. So this is my first and last reply on it.

Re-read my post, which I now regret even making. People just don't read and jump on whatever pet hobby horse they want to beat. First, it's not me saying one way or the other whether LSD is addicitive, I was stating what the CSA Schedule classification of drugs generally consider as the criteria to place drugs in that schedule level.

Generally, if a drug is considered of no medical use, highly abusive and / or addicitive, and / or too unsafe to use even under medical supervision, a drug is considered a Scheduled I controlled substance. However there are exceptions if you want to be specific and go down this road - take flunitrazepam or Rohypnol - it used to be a Schedule IV drug, got moved up to Schedule III, and now being processed for Schedule I. That's more political than medical for the classification of rohypnol as a Schedule I drug.

For exact criteria for why and / or how LSD got onto the schedule one list you'll have to ask the DEA and the Feds. Like I said, I was just stating the medical side of the law that physicians have to be aware of as part of prescribing controlled substances.

If you don't think LSD should be classified generally as addicitive, good for you. I'd say that's just believing what you want to believe. On the neurochemical side, you have some support to think that way if you only choose to interpret one facet of it. Specifically that LSD is rapidly absorbed and after repeated use will have lesser and lesser effect if continually used in most individuals, and there has been little to no linkage to neurochemical reliance or compulsive behaviour association similar to cocaine, nicotine, etc. After halting use for some days, the hallucinogenic mental state can be usually felt again. So you can choose to interpret this as a non-chemical reliance and no real physical addition state.

Personally, I'd consider that foolish. Entire drug rehab call centers and hospital staff that see LSD "addicts" who are strongly addicted psychologically to the desired mental effects of LSD would disagree. Myself included. Whether you are hooked physically or psychologically to the effects of the drug is just as much an addiction in my mind as the actual neurochemical reliance on the drug iteself.

Either way though, it's in the end irrelevant - LSD is a Schedule I controlled substance and considered addicitve by the United States. Go howl at the Feds if you disagree, I'm just relaying what it's classification is vis a vis the schedule level.

Sorry you felt blindsided about the LSD thing. That certainly was not my intent. You are in the unfortunate position of having alot of knowledge about issues that can stir up debate. And yes, LSD as addictive is an interest of mine. My comments were certainly not personal in nature as regards LSD, Limbaugh or anything else. Thanks for the input.

Doggboy demonstrates that it's always easier to attack a non-existent strawman than to have a thoughtful opinion. The guy has never come across as a prude or a bigot, nor has he ever discussed his religious beliefs when I have listened.

I'll confess that I MAY have overstepped with the inference that Rush is a religious nut, but the bigot issue seems pretty clear. His thinly veiled racist statements about Donovan McNabb a few years back were enough evidence for me. AND, if he is not a racist, those kinds of statements indicate something even worse-a pandering to his racist listeners. I will say that Rush is old news, and not a strawman anymore for many. That said, "celebs" on either side of the political fence will be skewered from time to time for their indiscretions. Whether they are the Rushes of the world, or the Kennedys.;)
