I hope.

The question will be Chicas or No Chicas.
The place is likely to be without chicas.
As far as I see from outside the buliding, there has been little development over the last 12 months.
(I see the cafe every day from my office which is on the opposite side of 9 de Julio.)
But I didn't notice the new EXEDRA sign until I saw the pic in WorldTraveler69's post.
Anyway, as said, we probably won't be able to find chicas here like people used to in the old days.
Perhaps TL knows better about what the place is going to look like when it re-opens.
Joe.

I would almost think WT69 has finagled some trucho photo to fuck with our broken hearts.

Hence the name or homage to the Great X!
A reputation is as hard to unspread as butter.
As I can attest to that!

I miss it too but Orleans sucks except for an occasional coffee.
Jackson,
Can we run a betting pool on when something will open here?
I'm going to bet 100$ on the under that nothing opens in that spot in 2010.
I am still going with this.
This is from last year, Jackson excuse me for not knowing the new quoting formatting but I think I won this pool.
Can you foward the funds to the lechuga funds for me.
Any new speculation when the 'new' Cafe Exedra or a coffee shop will open.
Any new speculation when the 'new' Cafe Exedra or a coffee shop will open.
There is close to nothing going on as far as renovation inside the place. The whole thing remains a mystery.
Not such a mystery. My nanny was a little miffed that yall ignored my question about currency one night while holding court in the corner. I simply can't control someone whose taken care of me for 60 years. I'm just glad yall still got your scalps. (smile)."we are all just seeds in gods hands". Love and best regards all. Phu bai
A reliable source (or as reliable as one can expect here) tells me it will reopen on or about September 20th as a coffee shop with no other activities.
Still not open as of mid Dec 2011.
Still not open as of mid Dec 2011.
I was able to gain access to the interior of The Grand X today around noon and I spoke to the man that was working in there.
They plan to open by the end of March.
He did not know anything about Chicas.
He did think that if you build it they will come!
It will have the same name and has nothing to do with Bricco's.
Place looks very nice, pleasing colors.
Tuck and roll sofa looks cheap and out of place with the modern, booth style semi-sofas.
Oh well, I am an interior designer!
The X emblem which is VERY nice is cock-eyed on the bar!
That's a capital sin man!
Like a crooked Mona Lisa!
The place looks like it's ready to go now.
Also, Lälliance, my old place will re-open in April!
AS a FUCKING SUBWAY!
My rent was $3, 200. 00.
His rent is $14, 000. 00!
He has to redo EVERYTHING and pay for the franchise, etc.
Shit product in my opinion because it's just bread and 1 thin piece of ham and cheese!
I need a ¨Jewish Deli ¨Dagwood!
A fucking 2 pound pastrami on rye with melting cheese!
He will probably close at night and on sat. And sun. !
20 lunches a month to cover his nut!
Can he do it?

Someone bring him Pastrami Sandwich.

I just happened to walk by here today and it looks like they are ready to open any day. It looks like it is almost finished, just doing some painting and cleaning. Maye they will be open in March as others have posted!
The paper is off the windows. Looks ready to open but needs tables, chairs, etc.
Should open on or before July 2014!
I did not follow this thread.
It has been a few years, but Why was Exedra shut down?
I did not follow this thread.
It has been a few years, but Why was Exedra shut down?
X was never shut down, it was sold by the owner's son when the owner died.
A steal at 1. 3 million u$d.
Partial list of problems :
A long legal hassle to pay-off the exemployees, some that had worked there for 30 plus years.
Each waiter was entitled to 150k plus as severance .
Moving the bathrooms from ground level to the basement, adding central air, unable to find the main gas line underground, contractor unable to pay the workers so they squatted on site for at least 1.5 years !
The new owners have very deep pockets so they were never in a huge rush to reopen.
Permits and lack of permits!
It appears to be ready, has new furniture still under plastic wrapping.
They created a smoking area where the bathrooms were but then the law changed so they had to tear it out.
The word on the street is that they will not allow Chicas to hang-out there when it reopens.
So why bother going?
If you build it they will come.

I walked into Exedra today and talked with a guy working there. He says it will be open within a month. There's still work to be done but all the furniture is in there.
This is likely to be very anticlimactic. I doubt any gatos will be welcome. I don't know if there will be any outside seating.

It would be stupid, they have the permit available.
Huge, extra wide sidewalk and a corner location. Most famous corner in Buenos Aires for 40 years.
There will be tables and chairs but maybe no Chicas which means no customers after 10pm.

TL
I agree, it makes no sense for them not to have outdoor seating. But when did "sense" ever get in the way. Also, that outdoor space is no longer covered as it was back in the day. Still, outdoor seating would be great in the warm months. I agree, my favorite corner, but I don't know if it would still be my favorite corner without the chica factor. Vamos a ver.
Peered in today. No change, other than a box for a 55'' Samsung TV. Another promising sign, one would think.

I ask chicas, I hope they come back.
For those who do not know how to find it.

Now that it has reopened, a few more photos of the inside would be nice. Also, a few taken from La Mad.
Any Chicas Yet?
Thanks

Thanks
Went by last night at midnight. Where is everyone? Very few people. Is everyone on vacation?
Was there this evening. I saw two known faces sitting discretely outside. Another two I didn't know nor was I interested in knowing (3s or 4s at the best) jumped out of a cab and asked something to one of the known girls. I couldn't hear what they were talking about but the two carried on to the other bar a few doors down Carlos Pellegrini from Exedra. (the one that used to be a monger's trap). They were in there for about ten minutes and then walked off to the corner of Paraguay. The cab driver patiently waiting with the engine running.
Exedra now is more of a restaurant than a bar with all the tables laid with cutlery. I check the menus and the prices seemed quite reasonable. (Both food and beverage).
The food seemed tempting but I was expected elsewhere for dinner so I didn't try anything. They have draft Quilmes at 28 pesos a pint or 17 pesos half a pint and it was very good. (I stopped drinking bottled Quilmes years ago)
They accept credit cards.
Sunday 11:47 five hookers. 2 maduras. 1 ugly Dominican. 2 cute youngins.
Does anyone know if Exedra now have Wifi?
