Both parties scare the crap out of me. The Democrats want to keep me safe from myself by taking away my assualt weapons. The Republicans will let me keep my assualt weapons if I let them keep the Patriot Act.
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!"
Benjamin Franklin
I think as a country we deserve more but we only have ourselves to blame for the shit we have.
I don't think it's the fault of most of us. I think there's a fanatical 20% of the population on the far left and another fanatical 20% on the far right that control the two party system. The other 60% of us would happily vote for a centrist leader from either party. But we never get that chance. We get to choose from a Massachusettes senator and a Texas governor for god's sake. Well given that choice slightly more of the 60% in the middle is inclined to be conservative, so the Republicans really have no reason to change their actions. I just wish the Democrats would get it together enough to run someone electable. That would force the Republicans toward the center too.
Lets leave the arena of opinion for a moment.

Oh man, can we have this board as at least one place where we don't talk about religion or politics? Can we stick to just "living the good life down Argentina way"?
Except I've really enjoyed this thread. Good thing it's not mixed in with the pussy. For the most part I'm excited about the respect being paid to different points of view. I wish there was more of that in real life here.
Blow it out your ear Hunt. You polluted FlyerTalk with political crap for years. Paybacks are a motherfucker. Tough finding out what people really think of your beloved right wing government, isn't it?
Hunt99,
If you don't like it, its pretty easy to avoid. Just don't click on the page marked "American Politics". The Argentina Board is a different class than the others. Some of us live here and like to talk about life here and other stuff just comes up. And blame the boss, he started it: Jackson: "Frankly, I'm sick of listening to the liberal drivel offered up by CNN". If that's not a political statement, then I'm a monkey's uncle.
"How many members of the Bush Administration are needed to change a light bulb?
The Answer is:
TEN:
1. One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed,
2. One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs to be changed,
3. One to blame Clinton for burning out the light bulb,
4. One to tell the nations of the world that they are either for changing the light bulb or for darkness,
5. One to give a billion-dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for the new light bulb,
6. One to arrange a photograph of Bush, dressed as a janitor, standing on a stepladder under the banner "Light Bulb Change Accomplished,"
7. One administration insider to resign and write a book documenting in detail how Bush was literally "in the dark,"
8. One to viciously smear #7,
9. One surrogate to campaign on TV and at rallies on how George Bush has had a strong light-bulb-changing policy all along,
And finally:
10. One to confuse Americans about the difference between screwing a light bulb and screwing the country."
Why aren't all the fiscaly conservative Republicans up in arms about the relationship between Halliburton and the administration? This really is a serious question and not ment as a flame. Those guys keep getting caught overcharging, the deficit continues to grow. The statement that only Halliburton can do the work they do has to be wearing thin. I don't understand why you guys aren't asking for more accountability from the administration you support.
Give me liberal drivel or give me death.
Jackpot
"You've done a great job, Brownie."
George Bush 2005

If that's not a political statement, then I'm a monkey's uncle.
No. If you bring politics into this board by a thread, it will contaminate all the other ones. These kinds of discussions are the AIDS virus of internet bulletin boards. This claim that "ignore it if you don't like it" doesn't wash. Not here, not anywhere else. People will disagree, strongly, when you debate politics and religion on a board. And it WILL carry over to discussions about virtually everything else.
If you want to read and debate peoples' opinions about politics, why not go to www.democraticunderground.com or www.freerepublic.com.
This is a board about sex and living the good life, not about insane anti-Bush bashing or the Republican equivalent. The anonymity of the internet tends to make online conversations (especially political and religious ones) the overweening province of people who want to stick pins, push buttons, and stir shit up. The Harvard Debating Society it ain't. Heck, I sat at a dinner a few months ago with a regular poster here who - to my face - was polite, proper, and friendly. When he got a chance to go back to the anonymity of the board, he starting acting like the fatass jerk that I knew before having met him in person. And this was totally without any political differences ever coming into the equation. And you want to add on debates about peoples' deeply-held personal beliefs in the hope that it will raise the tone of discussion on the board? It will just add hard feelings into the mix when discussing anything else.
And finally, you can't compare an off-handed comment that Jackson may have thrown out to deliberately making up controversial and offensive threads designed to infuriate at least half of the readership of the board.
Liberals Suck Ass. Bunch of Socialist who are trying to find fault with Bush to compensate for losing the election a 2nd time around for the White House and continuing to lose members in the Senate and The House. If the liberal cause was so great and supported by so many people, the DemoKrats wouldn't be losing seats in the Congress.
All Hail Bush, he has the balls to fight. Liberals just put their head in the sand and hope the bad people go away.
Bush had the "balls" to send other people to fight for oil, while he himself is a draft dodging coward.
By the way, Hunt, Thomaso didn't start this thread. His message was originally posted somewhere else (I think in the DirectTV thread). So, I'm pretty sure Jackson himself started the thread and moved Thomaso's post over here.
