Buenos Aires - 2002 Reports

Been here for a couple of days and thought I should contribute a few words while I´m here. Firstly, Hotel Plaza Francia is fine. Not 5 or even 4 stars, but comfortable, v friendly staff, and guests no problem, they just have to sign an ID form and up you go. No cost if you have a ´junior executive suite´, at $75 less 10% discount. Its a 2 minute walk from the Etoile and Newport. Only problem is unless you get one of the higher floors, there could be bad traffic noise. Maybe there are better alternatives but its not a bad choice if the Etoile is full. Great view of the Rio Plata and the city from the top floors though.
Saw Barbara today, of area-Vip, argentina-erotica. I think it was Saint´s report in April/May archives that put me onto her. Everything he said was true, very friendly, and all afternoon for 300 pesos.
We went to lunch in Puerto Madero. Great restaurant, unbelievable prices, and better by far than anything I´ve seen in Recoleta. Dozens of restaurants, bars, hotels etc in converted wharehouses next to the old docks. This place is only 3 yrs old and definitely worth checking out. We went to a place called Puerto Cristal, highly recommended. Barbara said given the choice she´d go to Puerto Madero everytime. Cab fare about 7 pesos.
Very safe atmosphere everywhere I´ve been so far, but I´ve been told by several people, don´t go anywhere near La Boca or any of the southern subhurbs, unless you enjoy being robbed.

Lastly, I´ve found speaking reasonable spanish really goes a long way, so get a few phrases down before you come and it will help.

It really puts things in perspective. As Jaybee mentioned, the value now is outstanding for us. BA was formally very expensive for everyone. Now it's just expensive for the locals. Way to go! My favorite place no less. I was like you.... $100 US would have been a bargain in the USA so I didn't care. However, if they ask for US Dollars always tell them you don't have any and ask for a Peso price. I can almost guarantee you'll get a lower quote in Pesos. Many first quoted $100 US or 250 pesos. The rate right now is over 3.6 so I don't need to tell you what that translates to.

I do think with the extreme drop of the peso the girls will raise their prices when you pay in pesos. That is to be expected. Also remember that the sheer number of chicas vs. the low number of guys there will keep the prices in check. It's the classic case of supply vs. demand. Also, you'll notice that every day there are new girls on Platynum. I'm sure there are tons of new girls in the clubs. There are simply no jobs there and it's one of the only ways for a pretty girl to make some money.

I'm jealous Yabba! But remember ALWAYS pay in pesos. If the girl gives you any grief just ask her if you are in Buenos Aires or if you are in America?! Many a nights I paid 200 or 300 pesos for a shorter visit (2-3 hours) when I'm sure I could have paid less but I didn't negotiate. It's ok if you're there for only a few days but it will save you a ton as it all adds up. Pay what you think is fair. No matter what anyone says... no one person is gonna ruin the market for others. Sounds like prices are virtually the same from a month ago. I didn't really negotiate so I paid much higher prices but I will negotiate in December when I go back.

Another thing that makes a huge difference is if you can speak some Spanish. It helps tremendously. I speak basic Spanish and it was nice conversing with the girls. My friend is trying to learn basic phrases and learn a ton of vocabulary which he said has made a big difference for him. I just returned from a week-long stay in BA. During the first couple days of my visit I was lucky enough to hang out with Jackson as he was wrapping up his latest visit to BA.

I don't have many new things to report other than the usual spots are alive and well. I think the only newsworthy bit is that my one trip to Black's proved very dissappointing. I guess I didn't even pay attention to that quote about Buenos Aires. That figure is surprising. I don't know if the figure is accurate but I assume it must be close or the paper wouldn't have printed it.

I did not experience or see any crime at all during my 10 day stay in Buenos Aires. Another thing important to note is that I have started talking to many hobbyist that either have been to Argentina or are going to Buenos Aires. NONE of them have experienced any crime first hand or known anyone else that experienced crime. However, I have spoken to SEVERAL guys that have been robbed in Brazil. They were not hurt at all but just robbed.

I do want to go to Brazil sometime still. I might go in December. That post wasn't intended to scare anyone. I just firmly believe in the flow of intelligent conversation. Hopefully the economic situation will stabilize a little. It doesn't make sense to hope the peso keeps drastically falling. Sure it helps us but the outcome could make it a less desirable place to visit long-term. Good luck guys.

Sunday at high noon...Orleans revisited...200 pesos is what they ask and even tell you its for one and a half hours...I will not negotiate lower because of my fear of lowering session quality...in fact this is a clear bargain...local men I met at cafes insist that the going rate is 150...It is my belief that if you could do it 3 or 4 times in an hour and a half they would not even blink...Also, it seems customary that they make every effort to get you there twice before they split.

I decided to fly down here on a whim after reading posts by Saint, LA Larry, Jackson, et al. Also, staying at the Castelar. (serves it purpose). Went to Cutty Sark and met this beautiful petite brunette and she provided the total GFE for 150 pesos for 2 hours. Take this with a grain of salt but my advice is to move on if you aren't happy with the price. I did several times. Keep in mind the truly gorgeous girls are always going to be able to get more money than the so so girls. The other wierd factor is what I call the "pride factor". Many girls at Blacks had this "pride factor". They thought it was beneath them to accept less than a certain price they had set in their mind. The ones that did I would joke around in Spanish with them and use phrases like, "No soy un rico ******". The girls would just start laughing and I'd say it over and over. I'd say things like "300 pesos son mucho dinero!". Eventually a lot of them would laugh and say, "OK..vamos" (ok..let's go). Sounds like you were doing a lot of this already though. The other thing you might want to do is instead of asking them for a price...just offer a price that you can live with and think is fair. Maybe just ask them after a little while, "200 pesos por un hora y media o dos horas". (200 pesos for 1 1/2 hours or 2 hours). Just put the ball in their court. Just put your own figures of what you think is fair. You might also tell them, "con un propina si el servicio es bueno" (with a tip if the service is good).

My Spanish isn't the best in the world and maybe I didn't phrase all of them correctly but the girls will know what you are saying. Does anyone own the 'Hot Spanish Book'? It's a book of Spanish sexual phrases? If so, could you maybe post a few of the phrases for us. I'm taking Spanish classes but obviously they don't go into that topic....LOL.

P.S. No offense to the guy that lives in B.A. offering help but honestly what we are doing here isn't rocket science. Here´s an update, fellas. Let me just start by saying that each and every one of you poor slobs should wish you are me right now.

Keep up the great work. Your posts are the funniest, most entertaining, and informative I have read on this board (and I've been getting my info from wsg for every country I visit for the last 6 years). I'm going to be in BA at the end of December. I would love to hang out with you guys if any of you will be there then. I haven't booked my hotel yet, but will probably follow Yabba's advice and book a junior suite. I speak passable Spanish, so I have never had a problem on my own, but it is more fun with a partner. I usually travel with my brother on this type of excursion, but he won't be able to go in December.
