Unfortunately, the vast majority of Paraguayan girls travel back to Paraguay for the holidays to be with family. However, two of the "no shows" for the NYE party at El Queso's house in the suburbs were Brazilians chosen specifically because they didn't have any family obligations and weren't leaving town on NYE. They told me later that they didn't come because of the "Unknown house full of guys in the suburbs" syndrome, which I had discussed with them before hand and which was why we agreed that they would arrive together for their "mutual protection".

They also voiced their concern that they would be trapped out at the house in the suburbs with no way to leave if they felt so motivated, so I had arranged for the remis driver to pick them up, drive them to the party, and wait for them until they were ready to leave to drive them back into the city. In the end they didn't show, but it's possible that this subtle detail was lost in translation.

On NY Eve, outside of a few restaurants being open (most with outsized prices) , Buenos Aires is a ghosttown. Damn near everyone has either left town for the coast or is hunkered down with family.

My guess is that there is no other major city on earth that is so dead on NY Eve. If not, I'd be interested in hearing which city could be any more dead.

So are there no major clubs or events going on in BA during NYE at all? What do all the expats (American, brits, etc) do then? What was the weather like that night, any good for outside fireworks shows?

Jackson[/QUOTE]I spent my last few pesos on provisions for a New Year's Eve Dinner Party and the power to the resto was cut-off by the electric company a few hours before the party!

I am convinced that "La Chacra" called the light company and had them cut my power because they knew that they were going to lose business!

I had a lot of reservations.

Unfortunately I had placed a sign in my window advertising the party the day before the event.

So I have been on a total ¨BENDER¨for the last week or so!

I was able to move the party to a killer roof top deck that holds about 200 people and we had an unobstructed 360 degree view of the fireworks till 10 a. M!

About 15 minutes away from Micro Centro.

The only problem is that I was only able to bring about 20 people and I had to provide ALL of the food and drinks!

Two Chicas¨though!

A tough FIND on NYE!

It was a great party to end a rather unpleasant year!

Great T-Bones, good booze and got laid!

What else could you want?

How about the $20,000 that I lost?

That ruined everything!

Disasterous to me but no big deal to most members.
