It all depends on a lot of different things, but it is all about what you are comfortable with. I have never had a problem in a girl's apartment, but I would prefer to go to a privado anytime. The problem with some of the transitory hotels is that they can be pretty shitty. If you want to be assured of a good atmosphere, then choose a good hotel you are comfortable with. Also depends on your ability to speak Spanish. I speak well enough that if her apartment were in a good location (not Constitution, etc.) I wouldn't have a problem trying it out.
You could always meet for coffee first, and decide if you want to go further.
