DfB:
The best strategy is to ask for the bar and state clearly that you don't want any companionship yet, nor to sit down at any table. If they say, "sorry, no bar, just tables", say that you are leaving.
If an establishment on that venue doesn't have a bar or a place in which you can have a drink alone, chances are that they want you to start inviting drinks to ladies right from the start. "Serious" places (e.g., Madahos, Envidia, Hooks) always have a bar and give you the chance to consume and wait before calling any girl.
Hope this helps,
Andres

Black Update
Last Tuesday night I paid a visit to my favorite BsAs institution and I must say that it is as good as ever. Big selection of do-able chicks, 35 pesos for my Tanqueray and Tonic (limited myself to one, as I am becoming a lightweight in my old age), and a passable floor show. My personal favorite for floor shows there is when they have a Mexican mariachi band come in to play. Livens the place up, a lot.
With the increase in Madaho's trixie drink prices to 50, the 75-80 for the same in Blacks seems somewhat reasonable. Others may not agree but I think the overall quality of girls here is still the best in town.
I recall that a few weeks ago somebody pointed out that the most famous American expat in Buenos Aires, Robert Duvall, was bragging about the place on 60 Minutes. A little search turned up the following link:
Originally spoken by Robert Duvall
“This is Black’s. This is supposed to be the best, classiest house of ill repute in the world. You got the beautiful women from Paraguay, Peru, all over the place,” says Duvall, who doesn’t come to Argentina for the women. (Otto rolls his eyes and comments: "Yeah, right!")
CBS continues:
Duvall, who is known for playing colonels and cowboys, comes here to dance. And he spends his nights with his longtime girlfriend in Buenos Aires tango clubs – it’s his obsession.
Otto,
I can't imagine a Mariachi band playing at Black's
That was probably because of cinco de mayo.
I don't think Argentines are very fond of mexicans, but may be
I am wrong.

Dick for Brains,
Please, please, please
Stay away. It will never, ever happen to me again.
-
DWC,
You are correct it was Cinco de Mayo.
As for argentinos y mexicanos, you are
correct, specially now days: The mexicans
are getting on the argentinos case, because
of the economy. The are laughing at them now
days, in fact, some actors are now trying to play
in Mexico and the mexicans do not want to given
work, specially in the Soap Operas, not that like them,
but its on the news.

DFB, take off your clothes, start singing "I've got to be meeeee" and french-kiss the security guys. Works every time!

On the subject of Blacks:
Friend of mine was in BsAs 2 months ago and went to Blacks with his brother. Said he spent 300 in the joint. I said pesos, he said no, dollars. Didn't pull a chick either. And this is a spanish speaking dude from The Bronx!

I am losing my Virginity!( My first report!)
Like that other Great Virginity, I had grand plans of a spectacular entry into the "Men's Club". It would be carefully planned operation where I would show my natural skills and talents. Front-line reporting, followed by a warm round of applause from my peers. (Pulitzer anyone?)
Sadly, Not to be.
Circumstance, that ever present reminder that you don't control everything, finds me in B.A. until Tuesday morning 11th of May and wanting to get a taste of what it is like to be in the pulsating heart of the WSG world, so I turn to you my new found elders to set up some meeting point in the next 3 nights so I can be baptized.
You were all once beginners, so take heart on this young pup and show him some of the ropes.
So please advise place and time and how to recognise you.
Edonist
Ps. The forum is of course about information exchange, and I do have a few things I am burning to say about my first nights in B.A. but I will hold back until things can be put into perspective.

Firstly I must apologise for that first report.
First time nerves, just like THAT first time!
I was trying too hard and to read myself again makes me cringe.
If anyone want to meet up for a Beer.

Edonist,
Why apologize? We were all newbies once, even your Uncle Otto.
It's a pity you weren't in town the same time as I was last week, as one of the things I enjoy most is meeting newbies and showing them the "lay of the land," so to speak.
Two trips ago I had the distinct pleasure to meet Flexible Horn on his first couple of nights in town. He too was a newbie but turned out to be a fast learner (as well as a Spurs fan, and I'm not talking about the ones in San Antonio!).
Just relax, have fun, learn from your mistakes, and let us know what you are doing. There really aren't any right or wrong answers here, just opinions.

Uncle Otto,
Good advise to Edonist. I am still a rookie and learning from my mistakes. Even thou I do speak Spanish, BTW, its my native language, still I got burned in BA at "Whiskeria".
Again, hope to meet you as well as FH the next time I am in BA.

I've just had my first 1/2 Chandon of the evening on an empty stomach so please bear with any excessive verbosity! but Wow!
Uncle Otto, to have those kind words from an Old Sage (565 reports, and counting) is most encouraging (obe one kanobi?). Thanks for welcoming me into the Club. Hopefully our paths will cross in the future.
This is my last evening in B. A. (with Sonia from Area-vip). I truly hopes she reaches the high water mark left by a sweet Columbian girl whom I met two nights ago in the most unreported of places.
My F.R. will be written up once I have had time to clear my thoughts.

Reports from the street and from Orleans tell me business is very, very slow. Where are the foreigners, they say.
-
Does this mean I am missed and should make a return trip soon? Sex Prison is killing me!

Re: The Mouse in Sex Prison.
I understand the girls in Cattos declared a national day of mourning when you left.
You have a moral obligation to assist the economy of Buenos Aires so come on down!
