Passed by there again after dinner on Sunday night, all the workers had called it quit for the day. Half the barricade has come down, the whole side along Carlos Pellegrini. One window was not covered. I noticed the whole inside is still completely gutted out without any fixture what so ever. So still can't what it will be when and if it reopens. May be Exon noticed more inside when he passed by there on Monday.
That's what I saw this afternoon. They've definitely been working but the inside is a long way from being finished. But, overall really good news. They have done more the past week than they have in a year.
But if they build it, will the chicas come? And be allowed to come?
I am still dreaming that it will look like this again.
Dogg,
If They Built It, They Will Come, "we hope?"
I am still dreaming that it will look like this again.
Smelled fresh paint through the doors last night!
Ceiling sheet rocked and ready to drop lights and paint!
Sidewalk is brand new and almost nice!
A shitload of huge windows all around the place 1
I heard it will open in August!
I also heard from a very reliable person that they will NOT have Chicas!
WTF!

What's up WT?

Coming back to BA in December, any word on Cafe Excedra and if it has the chicas like before?
If not, Cafe Orleans is my old stand by unless I get some other advice, Thanks!
I had lunch with Gysell yesterday, she informed me, Unfortunately, that Cafe Excedra will be a Starbuck's coffee shop with No Chica's when it reopen's. The Golden era of Mongering in Buenos Aires is over.. The MotherFuckers.

Exon
So we lose Exedra to a yankee import, stuffed with local yup types, with overpriced shitty coffee. Sign of the times.
You'd think after so many years, some people would learn this. Guess not.
It seems a waste to turn it into a Starbucks. Especially after the length of time it was closed, and all the remodeling. I still think we could turn it into a Puta Starbucks, though. If it's open 24 hours, put the word out that you'll buy them a free drink and give them 30 pesos each for showing up, and we'd have wall-to-wall putas there.
That regardless of who is selling the coffee, unless they institute a table charge, there will be desserts available from independent, third party vendors.

The location and size of this place makes for an ideal Starbucks puteria. (unless management actively discourages this and that should not be an easy task) The chain has a good bit of appeal to Argies as demonstrated by the one on Callao near Viamonte. The business model in the US seems to be catering to the self employed independent contractor. Just leave out the lap top and smart phone and which profession will flock to this place more in pursuit of locals and tourists in microcentro? My problem with Exedra was that I never went late and rarely saw a chica worth chatting up. Switching to Starbucks may provide an image shift that many more chicas may find appealing.
From the early days ('91) when you had to mail order it. I also like some of the sweets that they sell. But I would really, really like Starbucks if you could grab a cup of coffee and a 'tart' to go.
Hey, I like Starbucks coffee! I have a bag of Guatemala Antigua in the fridge.
That said, it's hard to believe that the corporate overseers are going to allow Starbucks to become a chica place. It's just not in the corporate image.
But hey, the way things are going soon we'll have McHookers. There'll be a new meaning for Happy Meal.
I can see it now, bunch of hung over, hard core mongers mingling with the preppies sipping their mochas: turds in a punch bowl. World has changed too much for this old fart.
