Hey guys. It's official. I'm definitely making the move to Buenos Aires and I'll be a partner in a travel agency down there.
Those that know me know I'm an ethical guy that has always gone out of my way to help guys in any way possible. It's easy to book hotels yourself online but many times the hotels down there are overbooked or lose your reservation. It's better if you have an insider working for you. I'm not moving down there until August but I have an employee that is fluent in English. She has a tourism degree from the University of Buenos Aires. I'm also in the process of finding a new office space in Recoleta for the company.
I hope to offer many unique benefits for my clients in the future like free highspeed internet access to clients that book with me, free calls to the USA, and free airport pick up after you use my company a certain number of times. I should also have US phone numbers you can call to reach us so you won't have long distance charges.

I saw something similar on the Economists "Big Mac" index that suggests BA is undervalued, as is Thailand. I think in the years ahead a lot of solid middle class guys are going to see the USA as the treadmill it is, and don´t like the idea of sitting in traffic and not getting lucky for the next twenty years. Mark my words, the US dollar is going to collapse, and Warren Buffet and George Soros agree and have made bets on that.
If you can arbitrage currency, like have income streams in the US or are a knowledge worker, the opportunities are very sweet. I am fortunate to earn roughly a weeks local down here in an hour or two. Here is a year's worth of observation on holidays in Argentina. It seems like whenever there is a holiday on the weekend, it automatically extends to Monday for a "largo fin de semana". Sunday was Father's Day so naturally everything also closes on Monday! I also understand that today (Monday) may be the official "Flag Day". Long weekends seems to happen about every 6 weeks or so and can be disruptive to plans and vacations for gringos. If you are not sure whether it is an official holiday, a quick look at the stores will tell you. Usually only pharmacy chains and supermarkets are open. Streets like Sante Fe are dead. Whenever clothing, jewelry or shoe stores are closed (and there is one on every block!) you know it is a holiday and you have limited options. You might try the Clarin if you are desparate and willing to take a gamble.
