Been reading the board over th last few days and generally trying to get settled here in BA. Not sure how all you meet up as it seem there is not general meeting place beside the El Alamo, but I do not know anyone in BA and not located centrally. I have heard and by the writings that are going on AP there is actual activity here beside my local Argentine bars. So anyone out there have any advice fro a Newbee?

A good place to meet is at the A'lliance restaurant. The owners speak English and can direct you. There is most likely a monger there once in a while. It is my hangout. It is down the block from the Cafe Exedra at Cordoba and Carlos Pelligrini (next to 9 de Julio).
El Alamo is good as most of the bar people speak English. Most of the mongers are there on Sunday for football.
Dinners are late in be. A. Around 10pm.

I have some free time from May 16th 2008 for 1 month and am planing on a holiday with lots of female company, therefore it will be either BA. or Thailand. I have been to BA only once before and enjoyed very much, but have been to Thailand about 10 times or more, so it makes far more sense fo me to come back to BA. Way, but now for the problem, the weather, so my question for you BA regulars is would I be mad to come for a month at that time of year, what is there to do besides chica time when it is cold and wet.
Before you flame me that Thailand will also be wet at that time of the year, I know this but at least it will be nice and hot.
Thanks.

May, thats late fall and it will be starting to get cool.
Frankly June, July & August are my faviorite months. And the reason? There are less CockSuckers in town. Yes less CockSuckers!
All the Europen and North American Mongers are enjoying their summers and stay away from the cold of Southern South America's off season. Futhermore the planes are less ful so your chances of getting a better seat are much improved.
What this boils down too is less competition from tourist Mongers.
Maybe some of you have noticed this, take a place like Excedra, or almost any club for that matter. 4 or 5 years ago you'd stop in and there'd be a 5 to 1 ratio of Chica's to Mongers. Now days you'll find you'll find a 1 to 1 ratio and sometimes even worse.
The over abundence of Mongers in high season has a drect effect on both pricing and selection. Moreover the Argentine economy's improvement has brought the local Monger back into the equation. Before the poor Bastard didn't even have a job and no discretionary funds for Mongering. Now the CockSucker is our competitor.
I hate competition.

Question for the Regular B.A. visiters.
Regarding the off season time of May and early June, are there usually any of the regular mongers around and are there any visiting mongers usually floating around or would it be only the Mad Irish man there on his own, with all the chicas of course.
Thanks.

IPM
IPM,
There are some year round mongers here in May and June, so you would not be totally without mongering company. The numbers do dwindle however, and I for one am planning on avoiding another winter in BA. If you are from a cold weather climate it probably won't bother you in the least, but anyone from, say Florida, can get bothered by the long winter. A few weeks probably won't be a problem.
Hello everyone,
This is my first time in BA. I've been here since Nov. 3rd. So far I've really enjoyed BA. My only complaint is that is a touch too cold for my tastes. (* I live in Miami *)
Tonight, I am dining with a friend from BA but tomorrow I hope to go out. Anyone have any recommendations for a Tuesday night in BA? I'm hoping to find a nice hottie but not sure the best mongering location for Tuesday's. I like them tiny and cute.
My only complaint is that is a touch too cold for my tastes. (* I live in Miami *)
You just happened to arrive on one of the coldest nights in weeks, it being spring / almost summer! We sat out at Exedra Saturday night and were almost frozen to death, quite unusual weather. The weather should be better now.
Like I previously posted I am in town. First time in BA, the flight sucked, crying babies the whole way (advertisement for birth control in my opinion) I am so damned tired so my first day is shot. Will be here until the 25th. Should I just go to Cafe exedra? Too tired tonight, plus I have business to do tomorrow early morning. Anyway, hope to learn from you experts!
Go to the l'Alliance around 9pm. Tuesday, they eat late in B. A. A good place to start. Then the cafe Exedra at 11pm.

I have not met any of you guys yet. But I did have my 3 way experience, was okay. I think the best 3 way is when 2 girls are lesbians. Mine were not so, while it was fun it could have been alot better. I also fell into a tourist trap place and got screwed over. I will try to remeber the place that burned me, but IT IS A HUGE TRAP! You all must be warned. Actually I think the place didn't even have a name.
When and were can I meet some of you guys? At Cafe Exedra? What time?
Now if you would have come by the l"Alliance restaurant 945 Cordoba, on Wednesday night you would have met about 10 of us.
I will be there tonight for dinner.
They are having a party tonight starting at midnight tonight. Too late for me.
Some of us will be watching TV today at the El Alamo for college football, tomorrow for NFL football.
A couple of us are planning to go to a Polo match in Palermo, if it does not rain.
Sorry, about your not knowing where to go and where not to go, lots of the places have been posted. So read the fine print.

Hey Guys,
I'll be in town from 11/22 until 12/8. I hope everyone is well and I'll see ya'll soon!

Hi guys,
Just arrived in Buenos Aires and ready to join in all the fun. Any plans, events, or activities going on please pm me. My trip has already started on the positive. Met someone on the plane from Rio and also the contact info. On a pretty stewardess from Panama. Realized if it wasn't for Jackson's awesome sites, I would not be here right now.

Hi everyone,
It's my first post, so please, be indulgent!
Totally a Newbie in this "world" and a little curious to learn more. I've already spend hours reading the posts and still so much to read, it's endless. About rates, technics, selection, WOUAHH, should pass an exam at the end!
I plan to stay in BA for 2 weeks, from 27th Dec. To 11th Jan. If someone has a moment for sharing his experience and "wisdom", it would be so great and save a lot of time! (And I could make some use of advices for visiting the city. After all, first time in South America too!

And Happy New Year to all my old friends down south.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying "All" that the world has to offer. I haven't forgotten you and wish everyone the best!
The Mouse is doing Great and loving life!
Ah, the poor mouse stuck in the cold returns to bid us happy holidays! Hope all is well!
I will be in B. A. on March 5th.
I am using 40,000 American Airlines Miles. The off season starts at the end of February. With those miles you can get two stops. I have used it before for Brazil and Argentina.
I also used it for Colombia and Venezuela with Continental which was 50,000 miles.
United is also 50,000.
100K miles are the normal cost for non-capacity controlled coach award ticket from the US to South America on most if not all US carriers. A capacity controlled award ticket is half that, but usually you have to book that months ahead of time.
I'll be in BA in about a week. Just a short stay, unfortunately, 4 1/2 days. I'll be back for a month a few weeks later, though.
[blue]Greetings everyone,
I moved the general discussion about airline frequent flyer programs, bad service, etc to a new thread.

Well, I'm in town for a few days. Moving from the semi luxurous Hilton to the downmarket Days Inn. In the long trip down to BA, I managed to mess my ankle up, so am now gimping around.
I'm going to check out an apartment or two for my month long stay next month, and try to get a little steam off at a privado in the next couple of days.
Yes I need to get my fill of BA again. It has been a year away. I still do not have a place yet but I am inquiring. Anyone that has inside info on places (apartments) close to Recoletta, I'm all ears!
Depending upon the availability of a place it will be 1 week either March 11 or 18.
Anyone else in town?
Rustyjones
It looks like Exon or his close relative is posting on Craig's List.

Whatever you do, don't ever stay at the Days Inn Comfort Inn. AC didn't work, their 21" tv advertised online was 13", free wireless internet was non-existent, and their queen bed was two tiny twins pushed together, that would move apart if you slept in the middle.
Let me know if anyone is up for some drinks or churascos or hit the major clubs.
I coming to do more of my Privado studies.
I will be hanging out at the l'Alliance if it is still open, when I get there.
I bought Ramiro a book "How to Run a Restaurant for Dummies".
I will be in BS AS for a week starting March 24th if anyone wants to get together and get a drink, food, or go mongering.
I will be arriving March 12th and staying in the Rec area? Until March 20th. Last minute scheduling is really a *****! See everyone at the Alliance or? Keep me informed on where everyone wil be meeting due to X's being closed. Or at least where the ladies will be hanging out!
Rustyjones
Where did you end up renting Rusty, and for how much?
Exon
Exon,
After many emails with rental agencies and conversations with AA (American Airlines) yes everything is set. I promise not to do this again at the last moment. Yea right!
Anyway, three agencies were trying to find out what they had still available. The airline was not being too nice about using the miles on certain flights and also how long I could hold a reservation without confirmation. The rental agencies had to confirm with the owners if the apartments were available. Each agent had a differnt situation or hassles to get the info from the owners to the rental agents to me.
It seemed that every time I got the fight plans reset the apartment plans fell apart.
Today, Gabriela at BAiresapartments called back with the owners approval to rent thier place cross streets of Pacheco De Melo and Junin. It's a little more than what I wanted to pay but it seems to be very nice from the pics.
I know that Tomas at BA4U had one place but it was rented during this scirmish. I also tried BM at Renting BA. He had a new place but could not confirm if it was available. He also had others earlier but I could not get the flights set up properly in time.
So that's it.
So I guess I will see you over at Alliance or?
Rustyjones
I found a place in Microcentro, 1 bedroom, nice kitchen, living room, high speed internet, phone, on the quiet side of the building for $700 a month.
I wrote an ad on Craig's List, and went through about 15 replies, about 5 of which didn't even meet my stated requirements. I'm a big guy, and don't do well with plastic furniture! I looked at it while I was in BA for a short trip last week, and will stay there when I come to BA in two weeks.
You guys are always welcome to stop by my place and drink a beer with me.
Lately a lot of the girls from X have been stoping by throughout the evening. All of them looking for work.
It's been rather interesting!
Stop on by and we will find something or someone to do for sure!
Take Care,
Ramiro.
