Hey TL,
Do you think you could get your butcher to cut a tri-tip (COLITA DE CUADRIL?) that your asador could cook up Santa Maria style? It's too much for one but I'm sure I could get Exon or somebody else to come along and it makes great leftovers. One tri-tip feeds 3-4.

That's actually a minor part. You can do pretty good tri-tip over any wood fire or even a gas grill. The cut of meat and the seasoning are 95% of flavor.
-but a wellknown drinker, must prepare you that I took (as every 4 months) my 3-weeks timeout without booze.

If I have a choice between lomo and Santa Maria-style tri-tip, I'll take tri-tip every time. I'm thinking Friday the 19th. Does that work? I'll get you a count in the next couple of days.
"Real" Santa Maria-style BBQ is done buy taking a 12lb top block sirloin, cutting it into 3 chunks, folding and spitting each chunk, and cooking for an hour over a bed of red oak coals. There are actually some restaurants that do it but it's really more for an event than restaurant dining. It's not at all BBQ in the southern sense but it's what the locals call it.
How about Friday at 8:30? Let's just do one tri-tip since I don't know if anybody else is coming. It gets dredged in equal parts salt, pepper, and garlic salt before going in the grill for 25-30 minutes depending on the heat of the fire.
If nobody else shows up, I'll console myself by eating leftovers for a couple of days although I suspect that if you join me, we might well kill it.
I'm bringing down garlic salt, salsa, and a selection of hot sauces.
If anybody else is interested in joining us, let TL know so he can order more meat. Otherwise, you'll have to console yourself with a lomo.

All the posters in particular WT-on this forum thanks- saved us time and money- BA certainly better than Rio and will be back. We just followed the advise and came good.

It was so nice to sit down with a bunch of gringo Americans tonight and enjoy some down home American lingo. I love Argentina, but my Spanish is not up to what it should be, and the opportunity to visit with some "AP Gods" really meant a lot to me. Nice to just talk some American English, and share some whoreing stories. Thank you Jackson for making this all available to the world, and thank you to the local mongers who provide of the information to all of us who come to experience Argentina.
The steak was excellent, the first time I have actually ordered a steak rare and not gotten it "medium". Every time I have ever been in a steakhouse in Argentina it doesn't matter how you order it, the waiter just says "medium" back to you if he sees you are American. No matter how many times you tell him you want it "jugoso" they just repeat back to you "medium and that's what you get. Great time TL every AP member must visit, you'll meet a bunch of AP friends.
I argee getting a bloody steak is hard as a gringo!
But never get hamburgers rare anywhere, There is a thousand times more surface area in ground beef for infections to hang out on.
In a steak there is two and they both see fire.

Headed out to go kill some local wildlife for a week (hunting, the excuse why I'm here) will be back to BA in a week for a day and a half on my way back to sex prison (USA) and hanging out with all the other Mongers at TL's joint. I just wanted to post what a Monger party it is at L'alliance every night. Lots of new friends, all posters, and inventory filtering through throughout the night, to help you exploit this town. Come on by and let TL set you up! Great Lomo Romero (and salad, and morcilla, and 5 liters of beer for fellow friends all for about $40 bucks) and loved the free raw lomo w / siracha sauce to end the evening. There must be a God, and Monger heaven found it's home at L'alliance. I'm just trying to figure out how to be the first to fuck that little cutie you have as a waitress!

Hi there fellow mongers.
Naughty platypus just landed in happy Bass and the first to visit was of course L'Alliance (well not quite the first, that was Checkers, but that's another and rather ugly story)
The place itself is modern and very nice (not your ordinary smokey-dark parilla) the food is simply incredible (try the T-Bone, if you dare, and ask for some „hot sauce" while working on it) and TL of course the famous one in a million. Go there, greet him, meet all the other nice fellows from AP who are lucky enough to be in BsAS. And have a perfect time. TJ gave me the feeling of along lost friend coming back ar last, and not that of some embarrising firsttimer;-)
And all hail to Ingrid, although she seems very much of limits. What a sight to warm everybodys hearts in the long cold BsAsNights.
I can only wholeheartedly recommend l'Alliance to any newbie (veterans will snort on my report anyway;-)

I'll instantly join the choir of people who praises L'álliance.
My first time meeting anyone from this site, and I immediately found myself welcome and as if I was among old friends. I didn't get to eat there, since I ate at home, but judging by the looks and happy "food faces" of the other mongers I'm deffinately going back very soon again for my personal favourite, a bife de ojo.
If you're looking for a good time, whether you wanna hook up with a girl for the night, or just meet and have a beer with a bunch of great people, this is a very very safe bet.
Thanks to TL for great hospitality and service. I'll be back Thursday!

Coming back from the Coast, I felt a bit soar after 400 km on the bike and wanted to have a meal at Lalliance. Unfortunatly, Sunday evening, at 11 pm everything was closed. So was La Madeleine.

We are closed on Sundays for the time being but I do hope to open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner in the near future.

Having been away from BA for nearly two years and coming from a country that claims to have some of the best steak in the world. I can safely say that the lomo here is the best in town.
The Bella Ingrid will serve you up a flirty feast. And the company is second to none.
If you are new to BA this should be your first port of call.
I stopped by your place with a fellow AP member on Saturday. Unfortunately it was closed. It was 6 pm. What are your hours on Saturdays?

The doors open at 8pm, most regulars will be there between 9.30pm-11pm, currently the only night that they are closed is Sunday.

I visited this restaurant less than a week ago for the first time. Food was excellent--I had a steak (duh)--and it is also a great place to meet other members of this board and those with related interests.
Particularly given that I find Buenos Aires one of the more difficult cities to visit (i.e., have fun in) it is good to have a place where one can meet others with similar interests to compare notes, and so forth. Although I visited on Monday and there were not so many customers, perhaps half or more were board members (or lurkers) and I suspect the same ratio holds on busier nights. And give that the owner is like-minded, and the waitresses know the deal, one can speak freely about our hobby without having to look over one's shoulder to see who might be listening (at least from among the staff).
In any case, if you are in Buenos Aires looking for some good food and a place to get and give information and maybe plan adventures, this is likely your place in BA.
I've been to L'alliance three times since it reopened. Same great steaks as always. The only minor gripe I have is that Ramiros monster hamburgers are no longer on the menu.
Ramiro, I implore you to get those burgers back on your menu. I would probably go at least once a week if I knew I could get an American style burger. As it is I have to go to Hard Rock cafe to get my burger fix, although I'd much rather patronize an AP member owned establishment anytime.

I just had a huge, double meat, triple cheese, Lomo Burger!
Medium rare with grilled onions, blue cheese, cheddar cheese and a little Brie!
Super crispy bacon strips across the top amd some guacamole on the side!
It's off the menu but if you call me a day in advance I can make some for the boys too.

I suggested Burger Fridays or even Chicken Sandwiches when I was there last March. They are both almost impossible to find in B. A.

They have a bunch of inexpensive HD projectors. Maybe a fellow traveler could bring you one (I'm happy to do it but I don't know exactly when I'll be back)
I took the liberty of checking out I'Alliance on last Friday night and for lunch on Saturday.
It was great. The beef steak on Friday was great and the two legged carnita was just as tasty. Stopped in late, almost midnight and ordered a steak and salad (tasty and I am not a rabbit food lover) with a beer. TL introduced himself. We had a beer together and hung out listening to the live entertainment upstairs. TL called a couple of lady friends and Mara the "package of Paraguayan Dynamite" showed up. We swithched to champagne and continued talking. Eventually, I had to take Mara for a test drive and WOW. She is the real deal! Two rounds prior to sleep and one to cure morning torque rise and she was off mid morning on Saturday.
Had a late lunch with Mariano and Juan prior to catching the remise to haul by butt off to EZE for a return to EE UU.
A tip of the hat to TL and Mariano. See you gentlemen in late August when I return to BA.
Went by today and there was newspaper all over the windows and some official looking notice on the door. The place looked closed. I hope everything is alright TL.

Just my luck it may still be close during my visit. I really hope it opens up in time. I suppose I can just walk by and see if it's open, but is there a number I can call when I arrive in order to find out?
