Map
I marked them closed on the map, but I will leave them on it, in case they reopen.
They were places that the sailors would go to.
It it hard to believe that the city did not want their money.

It is hard to believe that the city did not want their money.[/QUOTE]Not only sailors, but a great part of the male population were regulars. Married or not. It was some sort of a tradition here in Tierra del Fuego, and many wives over 50 took the fact of their husbands visiting one or two "queco" as a fact of life here. These places grew around the port, as you mentioned, but they actually were established during the "dictadura" and around the army base. It was with the assembling factories during the 1980's that these places became almost the only places to go and have a drink for the growing civilian population... To the point that couples were allowed to enter and see the "show" (a woman doing playback and / or stripping). I work with a couple of 30+ year old girls that told me that (at least once) they went to these places with their boyfriends. It was OK: at the teller they were told that they were allowed inside as long as they stayed as a discrete loving couple, very close to each other and not to dance around the premises... Otherwise the kittens would get upset.
Some 12 to 10 years ago I went to Candilejas, Tropicana, Black and White (later it moved to another address and re-branded as Blacky Show, been there 5 years ago, for a bachelor party) and Sheik, the last to close several months ago.
Reasons: Being two women in charge of the country and of the province (one in the president's office, the other at the governor's house) I see that they needed to address this issue. I just wish that instead of "abolitionism" they would have chosen "empowerment", because "abolitionism" assumes that each and every woman in the prostitution business is being abused one way or another. Those who read the papers and this forum know what I mean. I just hope that some time "women empowerment" will really "liberate" women from pimps, police, judges, "inmobiliarias" and allow them to work as they please... The first actresses that would dare to perform a kissing scene for the silver screen were deemed as prostitutes. Prostitutes were always deemed as prostitutes. I just hope that a time will come when prostitutes will be deemed as actresses! (And this forum and the like would be considered as a movie review forum or aggregator... What would be the equivalent of Rotten Tomatoes for the topic we like to read about here the most?
But I digress... Reading the Argentine forums I find that the waiters at the Casino that's at Maipu Street accept to act as "couriers" for the customers interested in the exchange of information across the dining tables. The Latino place is certified as the pick up place for chicas. I will update if I find more information.
All in all, I am most sorry to say that the value for money is not even close to what Buenos Aires offers. I'll need to visit Buenos Aires even more often!
