AFIP and Rentals

Just read this today:

I'm curious about what this means. Maybe BMs in BA can explain. Is this just a deal to get more tax revenue? Is it to get dollars from renters? Will anybody follow AFIP's rules? What might it mean for rental prices for people like me renting for a vacation?

It seems as the Argentine economy stagnates more and more that CFK's government wants to 'control' more and more. But I can't imagine they have the resources to 'control' very much. At the same time it seems likely that escaping government control is another potential avenue for corruption.

I'd love to hear what expats and apartment owners think.

However, to answer your question...

First, they will lure the owners and agencies into registering their temp rental properties into their system under the guise that this is only to collect the income tax due on said rentals.

However, I predict that subsequently they will start charging IVA on the rentals, to be quickly followed by requiring said owners and agencies to deposit their dollar receipts into Argentine banks and credit them with pesos at the official rate.

Of course, their entire scheme relies on a very rare item: An Argentine government website with a functioning web form. ROTFLMAO!!!

Those of you who have for one reason or another attempted to utilize an Argentine government web form will understand my reaction.

To them, the Argentine economy is stagnating because they haven't controlled it enough.

You forgot the part about how once you register your rental property, they will make you prove all the times it was [B]not[/B] rented. And good luck proving a negative.
