RIA Money transfer service. I opened an account and went through the security check. Then I sent $200 to myself in the DR.They charged me $2.00. Then I sent $500. Same charge $2.00. Delivery in U.S. Dollars. It took six days to receive the money (15 minutes with Xoom) but I am in no hurry. I am getting ready to move to Argentina. The charge to send $2000.00 to Argentina is $10.00 delivered in dollars with many delivery locations including Cordoba(no Xoom in Cordoba). This is all from bank account, not credit or debit card.
This is a like a gift.

I don't think I could have been more clear. Soooooo, why don't one of you open an account and send yourself $100 and confirm that this all works well in Argentina. Do this instead of speculating about nothing you nor I know about. I am not in Argentina yet so you do it. Then inform us. Or I will do it when I get there. The world awaits confirmation. (The website says 'yes'...dollars.).
It works in the DR because they dont have restrictive currency laws. It will NOT work in Argentina or Venezuela. They will give your your money in the national currency at what ever rate they feel will fatten their pockets.

However I have no personal experience so maybe they are far enough off the radar that for a time they will.
Now if you deal with a private bank thing like TL is saying, they absolutely will. They do that because it allows them an easy way to get black money out of the country, have somebody else pay for it, and make a little profit on the exchange.
My bank in New York claims they will transfer my money in dollars for pick up at Banco Frances here in Argentina. A few years ago this was possible. But today its not. They just laugh at you and pay you in pesos at the Gov't rate. I don't see how they can do otherwise without having the Gov't all over their a$$!
Really, the best part of this whole investigation is getting to know a few of you, not all, but a few. Hope I can meet you all some day soon (maybe February 1st or so) My girl, who I am bringing, will attend the University in Cordoba, at least to start. You know, she studies, I stay home and wash the clothes. I can't wait to see her in her nurses uniform. Hey, come for dinner and maybe she will wear it for all! Imagine Hally Berry in a nurses uniform,etc etc. Pura Vida.

Your options are limited. If the current gobermint could get away with it they would make ALL currency that is not issued here illegal. There are ways to transfer funds , but its all under the table and its not cheap.

Thats really the best way to go. A win win for everyone.

RIA's website is not complete and their inoffice information is not complete either. I did talk to Argenper in Buenos Aires twice and talked with a very lovely person who spoke Spanish very slowly, bless her.

I have always told my non mongering friends what a great source of information ISG is about the places I have lived (Costa Rica, Medellin, Puerto Vallarta, Sosua). I must say that my last inquiry brought out the worst in the membership, meaning people with opinions and no information. Not one person had the brains to suggest the method of dollar transfer that would work despite all the expert experience of the commentators. Not one person (except those that sent private messages) really cared to help me. They really only cared to blah blah blah which is a reflection of a their need to generally get a life. The money enters the country through Banco de la Nacion and the change it to pesos at the "official" rate. (Around 8.50 now??) Open your ears and listen!! There are other ways to move money but its only worth while if you are moving large amounts as the cost is high. IF you read these boards we always say, BRING CASH! Zoom is OK if you are in a bind but Argentina is a cash in hand type of place. What more can anyone say!! This has been written many times in many different threads. Locating an honest and trustworthy Argentinian.
Few and far between.
Locating an honest and trustworthy Argentinian with a valid bank account in the USA that is willing to allow you to transfer dollars into his account and then hand over precious dollars to you down here in Argentina is even more difficult .
Private Banking Downtown:
Fees: 6% of the transfer with a $100.00 Dollar Minimum charge per transaction.
Up to $30,000.00 Dollars a Day.
Paid to you in BA in Dollars, 1 to 1 or in Better than Blue Pesos.

You subsequently rejected all of the info posted by those of us who live here advising that you can't actually accomplish this, so then you change the subject and then declare all of us to be idiots because we've responded to the wrong question.
Okay, so here's the answer to your new question: Yes, it is possible for you to find an Argentino who will give you USD here in BA in exchange for your deposit into his USA bank account.

They effectively take your dollars and give you worthless pesos at a very low rate of exchange. Why dont you just stay in the D.R, where the exchange rate is currently 44 to 1. The D.R.
