Hippo no go
I hit this place on my first night her with a buddy that was leaving the next day. I knew it was going to be a rip-off when we first showed up, but my buddy was short of time and horney.
Of course we paid too much to enter, 130 pesos I think, with one drink. And the following drinks were near that price for the girls. As I said, we were not watching the money too closely, just having fun.
There were some very beautiful dancers and I was told it was 400 pesos to buy them a drink. I did have quite a few girls come up to me asking for a drink, and some were quite pretty, but not knock-outs. Kinda of pushy, to be honest. The waitress was helpful and cautioned us on the price of the dancers drinks before we ordered. That was cool rather than the big surprise at the end. I declined buying the dancers a drink.
I did meet a nice looking girl and we had a good time at a nearby transtorio. I got her number and have seen her a few times since. She likes 700 pesos for three hours, including anal. She speaks English, but has a bit of an attitude. I guessing it is just due to her line of work, not an easy job for anyone. Her tits and ass make up for it. I will not post her number. Not trying to keep her all to myself, just uncomfortible giving anybody's number out. Her name was Danella and she said her sister danced there.
I hope this information helps, I will say to anyone new in town (which I am) spend some time reading this board. It is a wealth of information.
Why do you guy's insist on paying that kind of money?
Exon
I don't understand why people still go there even though it's been a known clip joint since it opened.
-
I know a girl that used to work at Madahos, started dancing at Hippo, didn't like it and went back to Madahos.
She didn't really say it was a rip off joint, she just didn't seem to like the scene overall.
I have heard they have some really good looking dancers.
I think I tried going in with an AP member once. We were swarmed by street urchins asking for payment of their commission. Needless to say, we never went in.
I am content not going there. But hey, to each their own.
Regards,
BM
Why do you guy's insist on paying that kind of money?
Exon
Ouch!
I was just posting some information on my findings there. I was not bitching about the money, just telling it like it is. We had a good time in the limited time that my friend had. We just piled into a taxi and asked for a casa de puta. Of course he took us to an expensive place, I knew it when he walked us to the door (to get his finders fee) I am well aware of other options, the main reason I joined this board was to explore some.
I figured posting my findings was the best way to enter a new board, rather than ask a question without searching first. Give first type of deal.
Thanks for the slam.
Why do you guy's insist on paying that kind of money?
Exon
We who live here or spend a long time mongering here can search around for the right price or have an "amiga" but I deal a lot with guys that have one night in BsAs (or even a few hours) and if they get horny with a chica or other, a hundred Dollars more or less isn't going to stop them from that one and only pop! And the chicas aren't so stupid as not to take advantage of this but it isn't the reason for the prices hikes.
I have sat at a table with a gringo who paid US$150 to take out a chica. The next night she goes out with me for 150 pesos! She knew very well how much she could "squeeze" out of each one.
What is important from these posts are how good a service a certain chica gives and not how much they were paid by someone unable to negotiate a better price due to schedule issues.

Welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't pay any attention to Exon. None of us do.
I also wouldn't pay any attention to the price police. They sometimes don't understand that not everyone is on the same budget.
Thanks,

Why?
I've been avoiding this place because of the inputs from others on this site. The other day this street guy convinced me to take a peek at the place: $90 entry price, $130 chica drinks, $350 an hour take out. I spent a couple of hours in there and enjoyed it. I liked the layout and the lighting. I could survey the place without straining my eyes or moving around.
Why does everyone hate this place?

Why does everyone hate this place?
I definitely didn't hate it. I was in there one night last May or so. They've done a good job renovating about 80% of the place. They still have some work to do. It's definitely not Madaho's or Black, and there's a bit of the huckster element when they try to get you to go in, but it's a step up from the triangle.
My biggest issue was the chicas -- they take after the club's namesake. If you like plus-sized gals, then this is definitely a place that should be on your list. Not my cup of tea, but I know some guys like a bit of meat on the hips. If that's changed, I'd go back. But I couldn't find a single thing that would work for me there other than the two Amazonian table dancers -- wow!
By the way, I found it pretty easy to get them to waive the entry fee -- just threaten to walk. But, in the end it doesn't make much difference. You get a free drink with the entry fee, if memory serves, so you don't save much by refusing the cover unless you don't plan to have a cocktail.
That said, there have been others who have complained about their tabs in this place. My recollection is that this may be due to a monger's failure to ask about drink prices in advance. If so, it's not much grounds to complaint.
Why does everyone hate this place?
Sure the place is nice inside. If you want to just look and drink it could be all right. The customer satisfaction record with chicas is a different story. Go back and count up all the good experiences with chicas from this place. It shouldn't take you long.
Worst rip-off experience I ever had in Buenos Aires.

Grown on Me
I'm a long time visitor of Buenos Aires and I have to say this place has grown on me. Part of my problem is that for Madahos, my personal favorite club, there just aren't that many new girls to keep it as fresh as I would like.
That being said the other clubs I used to like Black (significantly down hill and still expensive) and La Lopez (seems like it will close any day now) were so lacking my last trip that I ended up giving Hippo a real shot.
First, I have been to this place several times over the last few years and I really never liked it. To loud, girls to aggressive, and prices a little more than they should be. This time I spent more time here out of default of the other venues and was pleasantly surprised. There were alot of very attractive girls and the energy is good. This place has tons of dancers so there is always someone nice to look at. There is definitely a little more hustle to the girls here but if you let them know that you understand how things work they are quick to back off unrealistic demands. Went with at least 4 different chicas and did not have a single bad experience.
Still a little pricier than Madahos (and not better) but this is not an avoid club to me. If you want to check out a spot that always has a big selection and have an overpriced drink you will not be disappointed.

Not enough or too much
For a city as large as BA, where P2P is legal no hassle, I see the same handful of places popping up? Especially considering average income and economic conditions, there has to be a lot of service providers.
Am I missing something?

Am I missing something?
Yes, there are lots of stripjoints-nightclubs in Buenos Aires, but only 3 or 4 are considered the best. Of course you can try your luck in any of the nightclubs in microcentro, and risk getting scammed (they offer you to take a peep inside, "for free", but as soon as you're inside, two girls start talking to you, the waitress comes along with two drinks + yours, and you have to PAY) or instead go to the safer places reported here. Or head for the privados or independent girls who have ads at platynum, gemidos, bairesgirls, areavip, etc.
Anyways, you can't expect any new vip clubs to surface, when the economic situation isn't good, there's also this stupid swine flu.
