Cycling (Road) in BsAs

Was curious where you guys thought the best and safest place to cycle would be in Argentina. I am reading about some bike tours in Mendoza wine country. I don't want to spend money on some fancy tour I just want to hang our for a while and cycle a few times during the week for exercize.

I guess I may need to check it out. Was hoping I could find a reasnable apt to rent by the month and live easy for a couple months. Hopefully there is some chica action nearby.

Is this possible? I have been to BA twice but never outside or near Mendoza so I don't know the area.

Canaglia, where I bought my bike, is an excellent store and the people there know their stuff. I went to the branch in Palermo:

I haven't done any hardcore long range cycling but used to ride around BsAs alot. You can always take a lighter road if the main avenues intimidate you but in most cases you're going faster than the cars. There are many parks and the Palermo/Belgrano area is a good place to ride. Mostly flat in BA but some inclines; the scenery is good and you get some decent exercise in a few hours.

On several occasions, when I arrive from the US on Saturday mornings, I have seen cyclists on the road that leads from the airport towards the city. Mostly they were cycling alone or in very small groups but on road racing bikes. The areas on both sides of the road is used as parkland / picnic areas so they probably use their vehicles to get there, park near the road, and use the wide shoulders for their rides.

You might want to search for Arg. / Int'l magazines regarding this sport. I had seen some cyclists when I drove to Pinamar - on the country roads.

Searched the archives to no avail. Anyone know if there is a hardcore group of roadies a cyclist could ride with while vacationing in the Recoleta area? Or, can you recommend a good bike shop that might have this info? Want to test myself against the (often VERY good) South American cyclistas. And yes, I wear Lycra. Let the jokes begin!
