What does it cost to rent a small (30/40m2) fully furnished appartment in a nice building (Puerto Madero or similar, so probally Jardims, Vila Olimpia, Madalena, Itaim) with everything included for 6 months?

As I write this, there is an article about Sao Paulo in today's edition of the "New York Times" online. Under the travel section.

But for around R$1500-2000 you should get a nice flat seeing as you are renting for 6 months, not just 20 days. One random example I found was for a loft / style duplex, fully furnished with the standard 'alto padrao' which means high. Price: R$ 1500 per month, call 00 55 11 3555-1992.

Check out the online classified section of Folha (but do try and get the actual newspaper on any give Saturday or Sunday:

    http://classificados.folha.com.br/cl...tamentos_flats

You can also find more hotel-style flats, like:
    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Sao_Paulo.html

The prices here are about 100-150 reais per day, but for a 6 month lease you should get a considerably better deal if you talk to the manager.

The metro in SP has very few stations, not like London or Paris. So if you want to stay within walking distance, this limits your choices. If you are willing to live a small taxi ride away from a metro your options increases.

The area of Jardims has literally 100s of flats, and there are many metro stations there. Not all within easy walking distance, though. Also check out the area of Paraiso, on the borders of Jardims; many flats and a metro station.

But also check out Pinheiros, and Higienopolis (where you will find the best pizza in SP at: http://www.casabraz.com.br/site.asp?id_pagina=41). The latter has metro stations Marechal Deodoro and Santa Cecilia, and in Pinheiros it would be nice living next to Vila Madalena. No shopping really close to Vila Madalena, but plenty of restaurants, bars and some really interesting prives and night clubs. Vila Madalena is a really nice, relaxed neighborhood close (walking distance) to night clubs such as Bomboa (http://www.gpguia.net/phpbb/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=73). Misterium (http://www.gpguia.net/phpbb/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1708) plus another 10 or so more down market clubs. In Vila Madalena you also find 4-5 good prives. And the best selection of bars and resturants in the city.

The metro is expanding, so there will be more stations next year. There are shoppings all over. In Higienopolis try Patio Higienopolis. A big one is also opening in December in Barra Funda, a nice area near metro Barra Funda with the recidencial areas Perdizes and Pompeia nearby.

Near Itaim Bibi and Pinheiros is Shopping Iguatemi, one of the nicest in the city, but then again no metro stations.

All relatively safe. Just take normal precautions in the evening / night.
Thank you, it was really helpfull.

I might be back in SP next week and I am surely will check it out.

I also spend about 65 euro a month, so maybe 100 should be within reach, especially if renting is cheaper then I thought

1-Yeap including rent on a monthly basis.

2-I was talking about RIO copacabana, in order to give you an idea, not SAO.

I was only passing by from SAO and I always stay overnight at one of the airport hotels in Guarulhos.

In RIO staying on a daily basis apartment, not monthly, my average daily expenses are R$ 260=100 euros.

    In B's A's 260 pesos=65 euros.

In Fortaleza same as Rio but I also rent a car there on a monthly basis.

Oliver is more precise than I could be.

Hope you have enough info now.

If you can stay next to a metro life will be easier. Search the internet for "flats" in Sao Paulo, and negotiate a good price seeing as you will be staying 6 months. That should give you a great price.

You could get a flat for as little as 1000-1500 reais a month (550-830 USD) Do not choose a flat that doesn't have a pool and a gym.

The best thing is to get a newspaper (Folha de Sao Paulo) and check the apartamento alugel section. If you don't speak the language, have someone call for you.

    Thank you Oliver.

Short term rent like in BA is not available?

Due to Visa regulations I am not able to stay more then 6 months but I would like to stay in a appartment (Puerto Madero or similiar) and I would like to pay around 1500/1800 dollars a month.

Is it a good idea to look for a place close to the metro? I have been only a few days to SP but to me it seems it's less available (Bigger city) then in BA.

Is the metro save and untill what time do they run?

    Costs Sao Paulo

I live in Sao Paulo, and the costs are more or less:

    Metro: 2,30 reais (1,3 USD)

Hotels medium: 150 reais and up (83 USD and up)

Dinner, cheapest (lanchonetes): 8 reais (4,4 USD)

Dinner, medium: 19 reais (10 USD)

Dinner expensive (wine inclusive, one person): 80 reais and up (44 USD)

Pizza, sitting down cheap place: 10-15 reais (5-8,3 USD)

Pizza, sitting down exp. Place: 30 reais (16,6 USD)

Beer, cheap bar: 3 reais (a bottle of 600 ml)1,6 USD)

Beer, more expensive bar: 4 reais (a glass of 300 ml draft beer)2,2 USD)

Taxi: About 20 reias for 10 km. (11 USD)

Girl, cheap place: 30 reias for 30 mins (16,6 USD)

Girl, medium place: 80-100 reais for 1 hour (44-55 USD)

Girl, freelancer 100-300 reais for 2 hours (55-166 USD)

Girl, expensive place 150-300 reais for 1 hour+ (83-166 USD)

Internet connection (cyber cafe) apx. 2 reais / hour (1,1 USD)

You can find cheaper hotels, of course, even some with good standard. Look for the express-options, like Holiday Inn Express. About 100 reais (55 USD). I guess you can find even cheaper (and good) options, too.

As you can see taxis are considerably more expensive in SP. In addition, SP is a much larger city than BA. But the trick if is to take a taxi to the nearest metro station, then metro, then walk or take a taxi to where you are going. And also, of course, to try and stay within a certain region.

An exaggerated day would with a cheap (but OK) hotel, a 30 min session for lunch in a typical prive, a cheap lunch, a couple of beers, a taxi ride or 2, the metro, a 1 hour session in a good massage house and a 1 hour session in a good night club, plus a nice dinner, would set you back about: 550 reais (305 USD). Of course, you can save by just going to cheaper places all over the line. And make it more expensive by going to the bars with the best scottish single malts (from the island of Islay, of course...- not that you will find any working ladies in these places, only good whisky). But beware, if you intend to buy a lot of gifts to your wife, just add the dollars up...the shopping options are endless, and imported goods are twice the price in SP thanks to ridiculous import taxes. You will find an excellent selection of the latest stuff from Versace, but with an absurd price tag.

Have a look at http://www.gpguia.net for info on mongering in SP. This will also give you an idea of pricing. There are endless oportunities, from massage parlours to so called prives (like apartments in BA), to night clubs and free-lancers all over the place. And in all price ranges. I would recommend going to prives, and the medium to less expensive night clubs. Seek out other areas than Jardims. Explore. Good luck!

P.S. To rent a place is expensive, and complicated - as they want someone to sign to guarantee you paying the rent. Your only option is a so called flat, and that will cost anywhere from 70 reais and upwards per day.
