    Coins

I've noticed that too. I think one of the reasons it's the colectivo (public busses) fare it's 90 cents or 1 peso. But if you smoke a lot of marlboro's you pay with a 5 peso bill and you get back 20 marlboros and a 1 peso coin + a 10 cents coin.

To get the 5 peso bills, you pay everything that cost 15 or less with 20 pesos bills because they prefer to keep the 2 pesos bills instead of the 5's.

Some times the kiosks will lose business because they have no change. Never expect to get a 1 cent coin change, because there are not.

    Coin shortage update

After returning to BA after a fairly short trip it is clear the coin shortage has worsened. Over the past few days a number of places have been unable (or unwilling) to make change. Kiosks, stores and bars. A number of times the cashier has let a 5 or 10 centavo difference ride. I was unable to get change in coin pesos to play a game of pool last night (though I did see a gorgeous young blond score change for the same purpose about a half hour later)
