All you wanted to know about Art Suites and more:

Small lobby with modern minimalist decor with two elevators. One located in front for the 2 bedroom apartments and another behind for the 1 bedroom apartments. Second floor apartments are used as staff offices, think the offices close at 6-7pm.

Large supermarket located a couple of blocks away; great place to stock up on goodies like half bottles of Chandon, a locally produced sparkling wine. One can get pastries, empanadas (try the ones with meat and raisins), prepared food (not really good) on the second floor of supermarket; on Saturdays, they sell grilled meats (not bad). Think they may have a delivery service; those bottles of soda, water and sparkling wines can get heavy, lol.

A pharmacy, couple of restaurants and banks are nearby.

Reasons to stay at Art Suites:
    1. In-room high speed internet (One-time charge of USD30, extra USD15 if the technician has to come in). Free internet use in the office.
    2. Suites have balconies except for 3rd floor where one gets a terrace.
    3. Friendly staff - I recall the housecleaning ladies even telling me that I didn't have to tip them everyday. The night doorman doesn't speak much English but is very friendly and cool about the chicas.
    4. Quiet, Upper middle class neighborhood located on the outer limits of Recoleta - I loved standing on the balcony during sunset and looking at the surrounding apartment blocks.
    5. Reasonably priced local calls. Actually last time, they even waived the charges for my local calls, talk about customer service.
    6. Reasonably priced laundry service - Did a whole load of drycleaning and got charged about 6 dollars, no mark ups here.
    7. Nice, firm mattress.
    8. Lots of privacy with private entrance to each apartment- think Art Suites only has 15 suites so most of the time, it feels like you're the only one staying in the building.
    9. Large sliding door leading to balcony and windows in several corners of the apartment, allowing for lot of ventilation.
    10. No minibar with overpriced drinks for the chicas to raid.
    11. One can view the lobby via a closed circuit camera linked to the television. If you're waiting for a taxi in the lobby and do not wish to be seen, sit on the couch.

Reasons Not to stay at Art Suites:
    1. Not centrally located like the Etoile
    2. One has to be buzzed in at the main entrance; the older ladies on the second floor control the door in the daytime and the doorman takes over at night.
    3. Some may feel uncomfortable treating it as a mongering pad with the older ladies running the place in the daytime.
    4. No onsite gym but there are two gyms located a couple of blocks away.
    5. Small breakfast consisting of media lunas, juice and coffee till 10am but one can easily russle up some eggs and bacon in the small kitchen.
    6. No room service.
    7. Limited housekeeping hours, think they leave at 2pm.
    8. Not sure if night doorman has extra key if you happen to lose yours at the clubs.
    9. Pretty much a DIY place. For example, if you need more towels, you probably have to go down to the office and ask.

    White Shark,

I second your opinion about the Murano Hotel being a great place to stay. The jacuzzi, FREE high speed internet, great location (1 block from Hooks, Catto's, Ness) and a wonderfull staff that even helped me translate and book my spanish only speaking escorts. They never gave me a hassle EVER. When I was there is was about $87/night. A very good deal especially with FREE HIGH SPEED internet.

The Murano is also but a few steps from Cafe Exedra. Also, when you walk to Cafe Exedra you'll pass this hole-in-the-wall bar called Imagine. I took a peek inside Imagine on a Thursday night last week and there was maybe one doable chica.

Chica Seeker, the computer is nice, but you have to be insistant if someone won't get off after their 15 minutes. I had some teenagers who were on for 30 minutes each, and just didn't want to leave.

I found that 3am-5am was the easiest time. This only works if you come home alone, though.

Just to confirm. Having a guest at Apart Recoleta is not a problem. The doorman just holds onto her ID until she leaves. Itīs not the fanciest place in the world, but for $41 if you pay cash or $45 by credit card you canīt beat the value considering the location.

Based on the recommendations of other mongers, I decided to spend my first visit to BA at the Dazzler Hotel and had Mayra make the arrangements. The rate has recently been increased to $42 Am plus tax but it still appeared to be a good rate for my 2 week stay.

All I can say is that it has exceeded my expectations. The only minor complaint I have is that there is only one computer so it is hard to get on at times. However, there are 2 cyber cafes within the block where access is never a problem.

I have a nice clean room on the 11th floor overlooking the park. The bed is perfect, and the staff are great. They even forceably removed a beligerent chica at 4:00 a.m. (more about this in the 2004 reports section)

Their complementary buffet style breakfast is also tasty.

The Hotel Dazzler is good value.

So I talked to the front desk at Apart Recoleta. They said that they still do allow guests. The only change now is that the guest has to register. I can live with it. They've always been great to me. They even allow me to check out 10 hours late on my last day without charging any extra. Good for those flights leaving at night.

HER NEW EMAIL ADDRESS IS: MAYRABRILL@ARGENTINA.COM

HER NEW CELL. PHONE IS: 155 307 3300. In service since March,23rd.

    Kisses, Roxana.

I have a question about Apart Hotel Recoleta. I've stayed there in the past and just booked it again for next week. But looking at a post from December, it seems that they have a no guest policy now. Is that still the case? If so, I need to cancel my reservation.

I am here at the Marbella and have discovered that the departmento or apartment is NOT an apartment with a kitchen or anything but just a big two bedroom hotel room with four beds. So, forget what I said about that. Sorry!

Plaza San Martin is chica friendly. The german gal at the desk might frown a bit. I was with a chica there last year and at 4AM the front desk calls up that there is another girl here, should I send her up? I said no thanks. The other one called 15 min later and sure enough it was the one I thought. Just nice that they did not send her up. An example of good hotel managment.
Also, I suggest the exec suite so you have a seperate bedroom.
