Presidente Jose "Pepe" Mujica, while definitely on the left side of middle, is not of the same mold as Chavez, or the current imbeciles running Argentina. He is a very practical old dude and unlikely to cause any problems for his country. Also, he can be funny as hell with a great sense of humor. As straight a shooter as they come. And, he's not new to the post. He has been president since March of 2010. My favorite pres.

Re: Montevideo and Punte del Este

Montevideo is a poor imitation of BsAs. Government and economy is more stable, and probably will still be (hard to be worse than Argentina) but the new president is a socialist and things could go rapidly downhill.

Punte del este is wildly over rated, and is a ghost town except for 8 weeks a year. It literally gets boarded up after that.

Jose Ignacio is a great summer vacation spot, but again, 8 weeks a year only.

BsAs is year round. If not for the idiot governments here, real estate prices would be 4 to 5 times what they are now. If it was not risky to invest here, prices would be 4 times higher, IMHO.

The idiotic policies of "cretina" will keep making this a great place for foreignors with USD. But it ain't for the faint of heart. I wouldn't invest my life savings here, but a little 2 bdrm apt is a great deal right now.
