I had a dentist in BA who said her then boyfriend from a rich family had been kidnapped twice for ransom. Its a cottage industry.

Its so big that "fake kidnappers" call family members on the phone and tell them they have kidnapped a relative when they haven't. They get paid sometimes!

Fake Kidnappers called me one night at about 4 am claiming that they had my daughter!

First it was my daughter screaming and crying and calling me Daddy!

I told her that I don't have a daughter so she called me Grandfather. Impossible I said.

Then she called me uncle and ended up calling me an asshole for not being related to her and believing her.

Some guy grabbed the phone and told me that he had one of my relatives in Puerto Rico!

Never been to that island!

They finally hung-up but the first 30 seconds were terrifying!

Shit! I actually thought I had a daughter!

A local contractor out here (Moreno) had his daughter kidnapped a few years ago and the SOB's killed her anyway after they paid the ransom. It was really sad because it dragged on and the father was elderly. A major problem here is they will kill you for your sneakers!
