    Faulty memory

As usual it was assumed that the act would simply bring in more revenue and there would be no unintended consequences. And as usual they were wrong. Trump, because of his deal making ability, will not have any of these unintended consequences.

As a side note, in the 1928 elections in Germany the Nazi party received about 2.5% of the vote and was in shambles. Hitler's plan to gain power by the ballot box rather than by force was a failure, times were good, thanks to US loans, and his message fell on deaf ears. Then came the Depression, the US recalled the loans and the Germany economy collapsed. Another election was called in 1930 and now Hitler was regarded as a prophet and the Nazi's got over 40% of the vote.

At least this is the way I remember it, but then maybe my memory is no longer accurate due to my advanced years.

Sorry for being a pedant, but in the 1930 Federal Election Hitler got 18.25% of the vote, not over 40%.

Shockingly, I agree with Don B. Smoot-Hawley could have been the worst piece of legislation in the entire 20th century, and although the depression had myriad causes (90% margin on stocks was another big one), I would also point to S-H as the most important single cause. Trump is poorly and narrowly educated in general in comparison to most recent presidents. Clinton studied economics at Oxford for a while, and Bush I majored in it and was Phi Beta Kappa. Trump has his head up his ass, and needs to read Ricardo on comparative advantage, as well as Adam Smith's Treatise on Silver, which is probably the second-hardest thing I ever worked my through. The hardest thing I ever read, took me six months, was Don Quijote in the original early seventeenth century Spanish.

Oh, and Donald, I mean David Ricardo and not Ricky Ricardo.

Not everything you read and see is fact

This video was selective and not a real representation of what the oil and gas work in North Dakota is like. Yes, some of the things she said and the pictures of the housing are true but it is in the minority. The wages are much higher than she let on. She said she made more money where she came from. If that is true why doesnt she go back there? Generally, wages are much higher in areas that are experiencing Boom Time conditions and harsh work and living environments. Thats why there is such a migration of workers. When the area has this type of influx of people the infrastructure in place cannot immediately accommodate the mass. Which makes living conditions somewhat less than desirable. There is never an immediate fix for this problem. During the same period of time the same was going on the Neuqun province due to Oil & Gas work. If you believe 100% of what she is saying you are naive to the real world.

It is a good reason to have one large pipeline in a remote area as opposed to having more smaller pipelines somewhere more significant. Much less impact than many alternatives when all is said and done. Basically spills somewhere are an unavoidable part of driving cars as opposed to riding in horse and buggy. An unavoidable part of having plastic as opposed to making everything from wood or animal hides. There are not enough tears to cry if you worry about every industrial accident lol. It seems unlikely that choice of political leader would change that. Anyway back to pussy.
