The lack of activity in Buenos Aires on both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve can't be overstated. To me, it is an amazing phenomenon. On NY Eve, outside of a few restaurants being open (most with outsized prices) , Buenos Aires is a ghosttown. Damn near everyone has either left town for the coast or is hunkered down with family.

My guess is that there is no other major city on earth that is so dead on NY Eve. If not, I'd be interested in hearing which city could be any more dead.

So are there no major clubs or events going on in BA during NYE at all? What do all the expats (American, brits, etc) do then? What was the weather like that night, any good for outside fireworks shows?

I tried that strategy from the beginning. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Paraguayan girls travel back to Paraguay for the holidays to be with family. However, two of the "no shows" for the NYE party at El Queso's house in the suburbs were Brazilians chosen specifically because they didn't have any family obligations and weren't leaving town on NYE. They told me later that they didn't come because of the "Unknown house full of guys in the suburbs" syndrome, which I had discussed with them before hand and which was why we agreed that they would arrive together for their "mutual protection".

They also voiced their concern that they would be trapped out at the house in the suburbs with no way to leave if they felt so motivated, so I had arranged for the remis driver to pick them up, drive them to the party, and wait for them until they were ready to leave to drive them back into the city. In the end they didn't show, but it's possible that this subtle detail was lost in translation.

In the past three years I've offered a number of girls a $1, 000 pesos to come to a New Year's Eve party, all to no avail. They all said "yes" and reconfirmed a couple of days beforehand, but then simply failed to appear.

Two years ago I hosted a NYE party at El Queso's house in the suburbs. I had three girls lined up. $1, 000 pesos each, they had to be there from 10 pm to 2 am, and they had to fuck at least two guys (I was planning a raffle). Any other business they could do they could have. I even sent a remis to their apartments to pick them up (do you know how hard it is to get a remis on NYE?).

They were all no shows.

Last year, I hosted a NYE party at my house in Recoleta. I figured the downtown location this would eliminate the "Unknown house full of guys in the suburbs" syndrome. I had three confirmed chicas at $1, 000 ARS each.

Again, all no shows.

Part of the problem is that I was soliciting working girls with whom I did not have an established relationship, but then I learned a long time ago not to introduce any of my favoritas to any of you fucks, so that option was always off the table.

Anyway, last year at midnight I had to listen to the guys standing around complaining "Hey man, this party sucks, where are the chicks, man? ", so this year I just decided to save myself the trouble and get out of BA for the holidays.
